Relaxedfishi

Hi, I am not sure if this question is in the right section but here it is: I have 55 Gl planted tank and I'm getting some kind of black hair looking things on some leafs and decorations. I've asked at the pet store and I was told to do 2-3 (20%) water changes every week for about a month or two and that should get rid of it. It hasn't worked. I keep the lights on for about 6-7 hrs a day. I have a Glo Light fixture with 2 coralife 6700 K 54W t5 ho bulbs. I know it's some kind of algae but I would like to get rid of it. Any suggestions would be very helpful, Thanks.

Really nice tank, I'm trying to start a planted tank myself but plants and fish here in Alberta are expensive. We just moved from BC and fish stuff is cheaper over there.

Hi everyone, I want to have plants in my 55 Gl. tank but I would like to know if it is necessary to have a CO2 system? I already have enough light and I'm adding Flourish Excel and comprehensive supplements to the water but do I need the CO2 system. Thank you for your help.
