  1. Anyone have any recommendations on how many root tabs I need for a large sword? How often to replace them?

I've always kept crypts and just put root tabs every few months, never had a issue. So i'm not sure how much more a heavy root feeder needs.

  2. Green but as you can see in the pic they start to turn yellow. The first pic shows the 2 newer leaves on the left and 2 older leaves on the right. The bottom pic is just a close up of the newer leaves, which are just starting to show the yellowing

  3. I got a giant amazon sword plant a couple months ago, it takes up about 1/3-1/2 of my 56gal. Its starting to show some deficiencies but I'm not sure what fert to add more of. Right now its in a heavily planted 56g with 4x39w, co2 and I'm EI dosing: NKO3, K2SO4, KH2PO4 and trace. I hadn't added a root tab in a while so tonight during the water change I added some Jobes sticks and flourish tabs as I know swords are heavy root feeders.

So whats causing the yellowing? From what I can see its mostly the older leaves but even the newer leaves have some. I'm thinking its an N deficiency but I figured I'd ask just to make sure before I go messing with the ferts.

  4. If you're upset over the snakehead thread I didn't see anything except a debate between people with different views. I found the thread very interesting myself. I"m sorry if you felt like you were being personally attacked. Or if its another issue causing you to feel this way then feel free to contact a mod or admin to discuss it.

But if you seriously want to delete your account you need to contact an Admin, either Tanker or Sam chicklets. They can do it for you.

  5. For the garage salers in Edmonton, our neighbourhood is having a community wide garage sale this weekend. Its pretty cool as you can hit up a lot of garage sales in one area. It starts Thursday May 24th and is in Dovercourt (just north of Westmount mall). There is usually an ad in the Journal about it too. When you go to a house ask if they have a map. There are usually maps that show where all the houses are to make it easier.

I usually hit it up and last year I got a nice 3g with chrome trim for a couple bucks :)

  6. Any one have a clever way to dispense said bottled water out of the large 5 gal. bottle?

    Pour it, lol.

You can buy little hand pumps you put over the top of the bottles to turn it into a dispenser. Its used for drinking so I'm not sure how fast the water actually comes out when you use one of those. You can also use a hose to siphon out how much you need.

  7. Just be careful and make sure you're buying RO as usually the stores will also sell distilled, spring, etc. They should have different colored caps or say right on the bottles.

Lots of places should carry it. Places like canadian tire, grocery stores, TGP, gas stations, or pick it up/refill directly from the bottled water stores. Googling "reverse osmosis water calgary" would be a good place to start.

  8. Oh and another tip...don't leave a bag of algae wafers where your 4 year old can reach them.

Also remember to put the cap back on fish food containers. My dog had a expensive snack when he ate a full container of NLS I left on the bottom shelf of my stand. This also applies to anywhere if you have cats :P

  9. I believe there are a few people keeping them in Edmonton water but I haven't had any luck. I've killed hundreds of $ worth trying to over the years :( So now I just stick to the neocaridina sp. Your best chance would be to find some that have been acclimated to edmonton water for a while.

  10. No he didn't make it  Last night before bed he was barely breathing. I didn't have much hope that he'd recover.

I'm doing a water change on my planted tank today as a precaution and will be watching the rest of the fish carefully.

    Thanks for the advice guys

  11. No I haven't seen him being bullied by any other fish and the tank is right by the tv so I spend a lot of time watching it. I've put him in a Q tank but he isn't looking good. He isn't eating and is kind of laying lop sided in the corner. If he makes it through the night I'll see about getting some antibiotics.

Any recommendations on what meds I should use?

  12. Yesterday I noticed one of my zebra loaches looked weird. Upon closer inspection the poor guy is huge and bloated! He must have been sick for a while and hiding as I hadn't seen him before and the tank is right by our tv. So I was able to scoop him out today and took a few pics. They are pretty crappy as I was a little freaked out to touch him so its just him in the net but it gives you an idea.

His belly is super bloated and kind of bumpy. The color is faded and his belly looks kind of soft, not hard. He doesn't appear to have worms sticking out of him either and his anus isn't red or anything. None of the other fish in the tank look sick, not even any of the other zebra loaches. Its in my 56gal planted tank. Water is great. I do 50% wc ever 7-10days, not very heavily stocked, fully planted.

Any ideas about what this is? I don't want my other fish getting sick too. I removed the loach to a bucket as I'm pretty sure he's past saving. Poor little guy
