  1. I donno? I just don't want to lose my tank whatever it is! I can't afford to restart. :S
  2. So, while cleaning my tank today I noticed my thermometer had water in it!!! I pulled it out right away and tossed it. It is a traditional floating thermometer with the mercury beads at the bottom. Are these still made of real mercury? Can my fish be poisoned from it? What should I do? I did a 50% change tonight.
  3. It use to come in chrome & gold and was called parabolic louvers in the lighting industry it is designed to direct light straight down another bonus. I did a google search as eggcrate and it came up.. Otherwise ^^^
  4. Thanks guys!! That egg crate stuff, where can I check it out? Wouldn't the loaches be able to get through it? I have 2 that are confirmed jumpers which is why I got the glass top, but I hate the link bars in it and they run right through my light so I'm loosing light there already. I was thinking a wider screen cut, so the lil squares in it aren't so close together to allow better light to go through?
  5. Hi guys! I want to make a screen lid for my 10G cause I'm not a fan of the glass top I have. I have Kuhli Loaches so I need to have a lid! I was thinking of a framed screen cover that overhangs the rim of the tank. Has anyone ever done a screen lid? Suggestions? Tips? I've never done this and will be flying by the seat of my pants!
  6. Just wanted to post a pic of my NPT and give a huge shout out to ckmullin for 98% of the plants that are in here! I haven't had time to aquascape as it was my daughters 1st birthday this past weekend so everything is just thrown in for now. Will try to spend some time on it this week and update!
  7. My first FTS! I'm still working on plants and hopefully will be raiding a fellow AA members tank soon.. This is with 2 white strips and 1 colourmax strip. All lights are off in the house.
  8. Gotcha! I'll flick the light on and grab one now.. Gimmie a few.
  9. 2 watts per LED, 9 LED's on each strip, 3 strips total (less 3 LED's that are red on the colourmax strip) so 48 watts total. Is that gonna work? I can bring the colourmax back and get another white strip which would bring me up to 54 watts. I think it looks pretty good. I'm fighting an aglae bloom from lack of proper lighting, but I'll take a pic in the morn. Not sure what FTS is? (sorry, still a newb to all this)
  10. I took a swing by Tanks A Lot this afternoon and got a much better LED set up. I put 2 white strips, and a colourmax strip! 73 bucks for the fixture (comes with 1 white strip) and 21.50 for each additional strip. Not bad.. http://www.aqueonproducts.com/products/modular-led-aquarium-fixture.htm
  11. I have to buy local. I don't own a credit card/debit account.. I get paid cash fro work.
  12. A brooder lamp is exactly what I want to stay away from. I like my set up to look aesthetically pleasing as it is in the middle of our house and do not want the unfinished/bare lamp look.
  13. So is this saying that if I have a 12" high tank, with 1 T5NO bulb sitting on the tank that I can grow high light plants? Sorry, really really really new to this!
  14. Don't mean to thread jack, but I've been doing a lot of looking into this as well! I don't like the Fluval one posted above as it doesn't cover the tank end to end (for my 10G) but was looking into getting this one: http://www.jlaquatics.com/product/ld-mldp2436/Marineland+Aquatic+Plant+LED+Lighting+System+(24+-+36+Inch).html Anyone have feedback on this? Would it be sufficient for high light plants? Super nervous making this move since it's so expensive, I want to make sure it is sufficient for a 10G NPT. Otherwise I may go with the good ole T5HO.
  15. Oh yea, where do you buy the ceramic thingies?
  16. Thanks! I'll look into an Aquaclear when my 'allowance' comes out (payday tomorrow!!!)
  17. Thanks everyone. There is 1 betta, 3 Kuhli's, and 3ish RCS (haven't seen much of them since going in). 2 of my Kuhli's are out all the time. I see them constantly. 1 of them comes out every now and again to say hi.
  18. I"m looking for some feedback on feeding kuhli loaches.. I have 3? (I only ever seem to see 2) and feed them frozen blood worms once a day. How do I know if they are eating? Is that enough? Feed them more?
  19. I want to get a new filter for my 10G NPT. I'm looking for one that is an adjustable water flow. Any suggestions? Must be able to buy locally in Calgary. Any brands to stay away from? I only put a sponge in them.
  20. Thanks! Everyone! hackerberry, What types of stem plants do you have? I have enough limnophila sessiflora/Cabomba now but would be interested in getting something different!
