  1. I have a 75 Gallon that has a Fluval Plant LED that seems to be too much light for my tank. I am getting algae along the substrate, except not in shaded parts. I have my light cycle down to 6 hours, and am adding plants, but I also thought maybe I should put some floating plants in to diffuse and shield some light as well as soak Nitrates out. Any suggestions on what I should be looking for?

  2. I am going to go with neocaridinas for now, get some experience and then I'll think about another tank to try some caridina. So I know I don't need active soil for neos - I would like to have a dark/black substrate. Would the black sandblasting sand be ok, or is there something else I might want to consider? Any suggestions?

  3. Drilled the holes, painted all the pvc (found the paint at Canadian Tire). It is a slow moving project though, just as I have free time. I'll post an update in the next couple of days after I put it all back in the tank - then I will be back with questions on substrate :)

  4. No, just trying to balance the outlets into each partition so filtered water is going into each partition. I am sure the holes between each partition are sufficient, but I also didn't want the full force of the water being blown into one partition either. So hoping this accomplishes both - spreads the force of the flow across each partition so no one is being blown around, and make sure freshly filtered water is available to everyone.

  5. Are the outputs going to be below the water level? If so, you should add a check valve above your return pump.

You could have made everything with black PVC instead of painting but to late now :).

The filter outlets will be connected to a canister filter... so no need for a check valve I dont think... unless I am missing something...

  6. I use Krylon Fusion. Just go over the PVC with a fine-grain sand paper to rough it up a bit - I found the paint lasts longer when I've done that in the past.

Where did you get Krylon Fusion from? I stopped by the local Lowes and Rona and neither had it.
