  1. Mine just started doing this also. I found some small gravel in the bottom of the filtre right buy the impeller and cleaned them out then i opened the cleaning valve till the water ran clear. did a general cleaning and put everything together. turned it on and is running fine now.

  2. I really like the Aqueon light strips. I have a 48" with 3 day white lamps on my 120 tank and a 2 lamp t5 glo hood and the leds make the tank light up so much more than the glo t5 do. Also the moon lighting accents are great for night viewing. good choice if you ask me. I also bought mine from tanks a lot.

  3. DIY on a 120 gal tank is not a feasible option. You'd need like 10 2l bottles and the cost of sugar and yeast would become exorbitant after a few months. I'd invest in a 10 lbs bottle of co2 this will last you a year. I can get you one for 120$ or a 20lbs for the same price. look on ebay for your diffuser and a regulator.

On the light front i would head down to gescan in the se and hit them up for some 56k bulbs. there about $3 a piece from them for a 48" so probably cheaper for your sizes. If your hoods are a t8 or t5 you can spend a little more and get some LED tubes that fit right in to the existing fixture. a little more up front buit you wont have to change the lamp for years.

  4. Pond snails are the worst. They will eat your plants explode in population and then die as the food disappears. the only way to get rid of them is with chemicals or speciality snails or some loaches will eat them. If you can get rid of them NOW! If you like snails get yourself a small batch of assassin snails they will leave your plants alone and eat the pond snails.

  5. - To me, the plants look dirty with 'stuff'. Is there enough flow in the tank for a current? Don't let 'stuff' settle on leaves.

    - Leave the leaf for now you'll cause the plant more harm and can even stunt that new growth (if it is a small plant with few leaves). As it currently is, that leaf is causing no harm or the other leaves in the 3rd picture.

    - Yes, it appears it is flowering.

    - And to your first sentence I'll give you a bit of info. There are 100's of pages with similar info which will prove useful in the future. http://www.aquariumslife.com/aquascaping/fertilizers-and-co2/aquarium-plants-deficiency/

HOWEVER it can be a combo of things. New plants to your tank environment, new plants adjusting to being underwater, higher/lower nutrients than it was grown, higher/lower light than it was grown. What has me curious is not those leaves turning yellow but the new leaf in the center which has a red hue. That might be a tell to what the plant is doing, transferring from one state to another/adjusting to your nutrient levels.

To sum up, clean the plants and monitor the color trend.

  6. There are some leaves turning red on this cluster of plants. Is this a sign of the leaf dying or the plant turning red from iron. I just noticed my whiptail is in this pic.

This plant has a bunch of leafs that are dieing and only one new leaf. Should I trim the bad ones off and let the new one do all the work? If so where along the plant do i cut to get best results?

I think this plant is flowering. It has little blueish white buds forming.

  7. You have some sword plants as well (back right) - tho, they have their emersed leaves. When you fill it, the new leaves will grow in looking more like a sword than a shovel (there's a proverb in there somewhere, isn't there?). I can't tell if the plants in front of the holey rock are swords, too (if they are, they'll need to be split up b/c they'll get quite large) or if it's something like Hygrophila corymbosa or compacta. Those stem plants right infront of the rock shelf on the right look like another species of Hygrophila, but I don't know my stem plants as well as I used to.

    Proverb

If you need a shovel grow it on ground if you need a sword grow it under water

  8. So i got a hydor 1150 powerhead to increase flow of the tank I added a few new plants and a small school (8) of dwarf neon rainbows and 3 angels. I will be transferring the angels to a new community tank as soon i sell my dempsy.
