  1. No deal!

Anyway back to the thread topic I remember the auctioneer last year mentioning important things such as not overfilling bags with water so fish have enough oxygen, plants don't need to be in a bag full of water and double bagging certain species of fish was also recommended. Are there any other things we should keep in mind?

What are people planning on bringing, you can count on seeing lots of my plants there, tanks are on grow out mode right now so the portions should be healthy enough.

  2. Tap water in Calgary is at 7.6 I just tested it with a probe. I would just leave it if the fish seem fine. Changing the pH and keeping it constant would be a lot of work if you are using buffering products. Although if you wanted that perfect pH level you could use a pressurised CO₂ system in conjunction with a pH controller/monitor. The CO₂ would also soften the water a bit and make your plants explode with growth. In reality you should be fine with the same water everybody else in your area are keeping fish in including your local shop.

  3. Sounds like you're making progress, replant your stem plant cuttings to further increase your plant biomass until you come buy my plants in March. I'll even label the bag Vimmer and put in an assortment of plant species from my 36g bowfront lol.

I don't have a lot of experience with diy CO₂ but for the short amount of time that I used it before going pressurised it never had any significant effect if any on pH. Honestly I don't think the diy did much of anything for my set up.

  4. Crowfoot area, I have some fairly easy plants that will work, vals, hygro, ludwigia and cryps. If you have anubias it grows quite well on wood just use an elastic band to secure it to the wood until it attaches itself. I can also give you more anubias if you want.

This is kind of off topic and should probably be on another thread but I wonder how plants transition from hi tech to low tech.

  5. I can easily load you up on free plants. As far as stocking suggestions I am really fond of diamond tetras, they have striking colour and are always on the move especially of you have a strong current.

As far as plant suggestions go, take and try anything you can get for free as a start. What are you looking for, stems, carpet, grass, cryps, red, bright green, dark green, moss? Just remember fishclub girl is who you want to talk to if you want duckweed.
