I have Cardinal tetra, Dwarf neon rainbows, Ember tetra, Harlequin rasboras, and Green tiger barbs in my large community tank which brings a lot of color to the tank. You could get Celestial Pearl Danios but they are very shy and will try to hide on the bottom behind plant and ornaments.

I have made a few lids. I go to Rally Glass in Edmonton.
They cut the glass right to size to fit your needs. Very cheap.

I did the same thing with my 72 gallon bow front about 2 ½ years ago. But I mixed laterite in with my gravel. I set up a 10 gallon to house the fish temporary. I kept 35 gallons from the aquarium for later. The canister sat for 1.5 hours without power. I was a newbie at the time and now I would have filled a large plastic garbage can with the aquarium water and hooked the filter to it with an air stone and heater.
After mixing in the laterite in the gravel I put the 35 gallons of used water back into the tank which has lost about 10 deg cooler.
Added fresh treated water at a much warmer temperature to composite for the cold water to bring the temperature back to 78 deg or what is needed for your fish.
Now I would have used the water from the large garbage can housing the filter because it would be at the right temperature and well oxygenated.
Then I reinstalled the canister filter.
I ran the bubblers for a day or 2 before setting up my C02.
Total time was 2 ½ hours.

I have the Eheim ultra G160 canister and I use micro cloth (100 microns) on top so I clean the filter once a month.

Wow! Looks amazing
It does look amazing. If I am fortunate to have another bloom maybe the petals will open more to get a peek inside.

I cut the flower stalk off at the base.
Thanks Geophagus. Yes I am going to cut the flower stock off at the base. I just talked to a lady who owns a hydroponic store here in Edmonton and she said cut it at the base of the plant because it won’t bloom from the same stem a second time. If conditions are good it might shoot up several stem and continue blooming for a month with each bloom lasting 3 to 5 days. Funny thing, the first thing she asked me was did you smell the flower.

I did get a faint smell but not enough. After the bloom was done did you prune it above the water?

Cool! Always wanted a clam. But I heard they don't do well in fish tanks, they starve quickly.
How long have you had yours? Do you feed him separately (with green water or whatever)?
I did have 2 green clams in the 180 (3 and 4 inches) but I found out later that the there wasn't enough nutrients, food particles in the water for two clams and the smaller one starved to death. About 8 month ago the larger one buried deep in the substrate and never came back up. I think it was because of my auto water change system (roughly 60 gallons a week) left max Nitrates 2.5 ppm. The plants were consuming everything else as well as their ferts leaving nothing for the clam. If the water nitrates were around 7 to 10 ppm and a little extra food waste he would have survived.

Actually this is my first experience having a plant bloom. Lack of experience I was more confused because I didn't understand why I had this stem from the middle of the plant shooting straight up with a small head on it. Two days later the had bloomed. I was amazed vwith the results and didn't even think of smelling the flower. It might be too late now but after work I will see if there is any sent left to enjoy. If I am fortunate to have another bloom I will be ready and set up my camera for elasped time and make a video of the pics.
Now that the plant has bloomed will it bloom again or was this a one time event?

This is a green clam about 4 inches. He usually buried in the substrate but comes out once and a while.

I'd love to see how your water bill is after a few months! I've always wanted to do a drip system. How do you plan to tell when your carbon block needs replacing - just replace it at regular intervals or test your water every week? I'd think you'd want to make sure it was removing everything with a discus tank, eh?
Thank god water is cheap. The supplier said the filter would last a year for normal house hold use, drinking and so on. We calculated that I would use around 2/3 of the water. After 12 months I checked the chlorine every week. After 15 months there was no chlorine but I decided it was time to change the filter. Better safe than sorry. The filter cost around $28.00.

Nice.. but i do enjoy the maintenance on my tanks. Keeps me out of trouble and other jobs around house and my better half always knows where i am every sat or Sunday. I got 4 larger tanks that require a lot of attention 180 135 90 75 plus 4 smaller tanks. Still very nice setup there.
Thanks zoopkamol,The main reason was when I go on holidays I only have to find someone to feed them every second day and not worry about water changes. Plus having the Discus I changed 60 gallons a week.

I decided to save on many gallons of water changes.

Hello, my name is Roy and it’s been almost 2 years now that I was a member to a forum. I was a member of Canadian Aquarium Connection but they closed the doors to the forum. I am an amateur photographer so I have way too many pics of fish.
I am looking forward to being a new member of you forum.
My first tank was a 30 gallon with Bala sharks 20 years ago which lasted about 2 years. I started up again 3 years ago and it has been full bore since then. Started with a 72 gallon bow front with Balas, realized after 6 months I still have the passion for it so I sold the 72 to friend and upgraded to a 180 gallon planted discus tank with CO2. Went 2 years with 6 Discus and was upset about the runt of the tank being picked on and eventually dying. Plus I was grudged spending another $600 to $700 getting 6 more discus to try and avoid distraction from the new runt getting picked on. I redesigned the 180 again last month with schooling fish and six (4 to 5 inch) balas.
I have 4 tanks with an auto water change system with overflow.
Then came several more tanks hence the name Overboard.
30 gallon long – Dwarf Frogs and misc fish
20 gallon tall - Breading Red Sakura Fire Shrimp
15 gallon – Breading Celestial Pearl Danios
15 gallon – Fry tank for 30 Mollies
10 gallon – Holding my last Discus (which is being medicated at the moment because of stress) until I find a new owner
10 gallon – For two glass moss trays holding CPD eggs
10 gallon – For CPD and Fancy Tail Guppy fry about 2 weeks old
5 gallon Fluval – Larger CPDs and Fancy Tail Guppies
Sorry about the lengthy post but I am excited to get back to learning and exploring other ideas and helping other with problems that I have struggled through. Plus exciting news, 3 days ago one of my Lotus plants bloomed a flower.
