Thanks figured it should work but wanted to check. Will still be bubblers for o2 but if a sponge will work why waste the HOB filtering cababilityThe AquaClear sponge is a perfect prefilter for HOBs, just cut and X that goes about 1/2 way thru the length of the sponge and slide it over the intake

Amano require brackish water to breed but they also live for like 10+ years so they will outlive pretty much all the shrimps in tanks even without breeding.
Crystals and most sulawesi shrimps breed fine in freshwater.
Be careful with ghost shrimps - some of them will hunt down smaller shrimps like the cherry shrimps if you keep them in the same tank.
Really crystals will breed in freshwater that may change things. Disappointed to hear ghosts will predate the Neo's. Generally speaking can Neo's and crystals share and breed in same tank? Would like some variety but no way wife's going to let me get another tank for a bit. She wanted zero. Me (with daughter as trump card heh heh heh) got 10g which led to inheriting a 36 with most accessories. Was planning on setting up 10g as dual species shrimp tank.

Unsure of general hardness out here in Medicine Hat but must be like liquid rock. Tried to adjust the ph in my tap water over the weekend; after five progressively stronger dosings managed to get ph down to 7.4from 7.8 and it's holding but to convert to dosing my 36g tank it would take about 100ml of api's 9.6 % sulphuric acid to get it there let alone down to neutral

Newbie question time again do I need to get rid of hang on filtration and go with only sponge filter or can I wrap intake with nylons or a sponge to keep fry out?

They are hardy from what I've read but don't they take brackish water to complete breeding cycle same as crystals/ saluwesi?
-
Yeah found out same. Not ready to attempt Amanos or caridinas yet so guess it's some variety of neo and ghost shrimp to start

Can I keep snowball and cherry shrimp in same tank or do the interbreed?

Having trouble getting cabomba to take root. Growing like crazy along with wisteria, red ludwigia, and some swordtail all of which have rooted well and quick. The cabin bombs seems to grow well at the top then bottom breaks up and it winds up floating. Simple gravel substrate but no signs of roots on bottoms that keep rotting and breaking. Have cut it down and attached to a pebble to keep down but same results. Could it be time of year? Have read that in nature cabomba breaks up in the fall depositing prices on river bed and that these pieces Regrow new plants in spring

Hello all: from Medicine Hat bought a 10g which led to inheriting a 36; both have cycled and have set 36 up as mainly tetra tank with 4 each fire and ice, candy cane, pristella, and Von rio; 6 neons, with 2 ottos and 3 mystery snails for algae management. Hoping to set 10g up for breeding ghost shrimp or cherry/ neocaridina's shrimp of some variety.
