  1. I have always liked the neon tetras when you get lots of them together in a tank. Pretty awesome sight right now, even better when the school up and swim.
  2. gBOYsc2, I have neon tetra's and glow light's in the tank right now. Haven't really decided on what else to add in there yet. About 25 of them total. Have few plants in there right now (Anubis) Been looking at the Eheim pro 3 filter line, if and when I do add more fish to the tank.
  3. I was wonder for those who use a canister filter. how do you have your sprayer bar set? Right now mine is facing up towards the surface of the water for some surface agitation. Should you have some agitation at the surface, or does it matter. I also think I have low water flow in the tank. Should I consider picking up a power head, second canister filter or air pump? Tank is a 90gal reg with xp3 with light fish stocking Thanks
  4. So ya. I have fish food that has been sitting around for a while and has not been used in a long long time. I was wondering, Is fish food still good after its aged a few years? or still good like the day i bought it. some has not even been opened. lol
  5. For those who have sand in their tanks. And when you do your weekly water changes and what not. Do you suck up any sand and you clean the bottom with your suction hose. Or is the sand heavy enough to fall back down? I am not sure what I would like to use. I like the look of sand. But dont want to suck it up. thanks
  6. wow, thats really good . and all the parts and everything? ill have to check it out! save some money there Thanks DD

    Test kits

What test kits are good to invest in? Would something of this: Seachem Multi Test Marine Basic is all you would need? Has ph,alkalinity, ammonia, nitrite and nitrate kits into one kit. All you really need to worrie about would ph, ammonia, nitriteand nitrate correct?

    Air pump?

Will any Air pump do? or does it need to be the right size for the tank? Better to be the right recommend pump for the tank? Say the tank is 90 gallons
  9. Would the air from the air pump kit the sand around? or will it just move it out the way and be fine? any of you guys have air pumps with sand bottoms? Been thing of going sand but not sure yet. Can you get like white sand or black sand from home depot, or is it just the basic color in play grounds etc?
  10. Ok cool, thanks got that figured out now
  11. 2217 would be all you would need for a 90? Been looking at HOB filters and canisters. Been putting prices together and seeing what prices come to. And what I’d like to spend. Sure lots of different ways to go about. On my Ten gallon I had the same problem with the impeller stopping at times. That concerned me a lot on my ten gallon, didn’t like it stopping. So when you say biological filtration and mechanical. The bio would be a canister type and a mechanical is a HOB type?
  12. midgetwaiter, how come your done with canisters? Too many problems? too expensive? They are pricey Also been looking at the Emperor Bio-Wheel filters as well would 2 of those be enough?
  13. Thanks all! Neely he I wish I could do 150 or bigger. A 90 gallon tank probably going to be the right size for me. Anything bigger will be pushing the space it will be going in.
  14. Wow neely, 3 filters. that’s just wow! Would never of though you would need that much :cuss: that’s sure a lot is it just for African cichlids? Tanker, Yea I'll be doing a tropical FW. Wouldn’t put 40 bala's in lol 1 or 2 at most.. If any bala's. Be doing something like tetras, barbs, betta, and cleaner fish mostly. This gets very confusing very fast :bang1: How bad do the hoses get with sludge? Pain to clean them out? I can always add a second later if its a must. Woozers! Do you really need to have 8x the filtration? Shouldn’t double be enough? (Very new to all this, specially the bigger size tanks, so please be patient) Discus, From the LFS, the guy said the Eheim was easier to clean and less maint :grr: and you dont get airlocks in the Eheim... Hrm i just dont know. What he recomened anyways I guess everyone is different and is all personal preference.
  15. Tank will be a community tank. Fish load wont be to the max probably 40-70 range, probably less. Like to leave space fo fish growth. Will put in some live plants later down the road, probably 5-10 plants. Water changes and gravel vacum, probably every week to every other week
  16. Is the Eheim Filter 2215 enough for a 90 gallon say its rated for 95 gallon tank? Or is it better to get the Eheim Filter 2217?
  17. IS there other stores in the calgary area I should check out as well that be worth it?
  18. I saw that as well and gave him a PM
  19. Planning on it to be a community tank. Still doing reading, try help decide. Was thinking of some Neon or cardinal tetras( have always like those) A shark or 2 of some type, plec or cat fish. Like to have a betta as well. other than that not to sure lol trying to make sure the fish i put with eacher will work together
  20. Ah ok I was woundering why I could not find anything on AC500's lol When you put an order in how long does it take for him to make a tank? is it a glass tank or acrlyic? Ill do so reading up on sumps see what they are about. Though canister probably the way id being, tanks going to go in the family room. Have to see though.
  21. Ill have to check Golds out tomorrow or Monday. See what they can do for me. Id like to get a new tank and everything since when or if I run into a problem I can get it replace or fixed.. I though about building my own stand, I'm sure I can do with ease, built a glass/oak display case about 72" by 36" by 16" and chest of drawers, so I know I could make one. But I would be a bit worried if it would hold that kind of weight. IS there some good rule of thumb when building your own tank stand? Not really on a budget but don’t want to blow 1500bucks you know? Been shopping around for everything trying to fine the best price(s) on everything. And get as much info as I can Yea saw some of those tanks at Big Als and was really shocked. Most of those bow fronts and corner one are way up there. Big Red 265. Would you happen to have a link to the AC500's? Or where you bought them at? Thanks Didn’t see any tanks on Golds, I am missing something?
  22. Hello everyone just saying hello and hope to get back in to the fun use to have a 10gallon tank when i was younger and not as smart lol Now that ive been doing lots of reading and seem to understand everything SO much better liked to get back in to it! been looking at a 90 gallon tank but donno lol Great site and great info and help!
  23. If I went the 2 heater way id probably only be able to get 1 heater for the time being and later down the road get the second one. Thanks for the help on the filter! Was not to sure just want to get things cleared up! Was at big Al's yesterday looking and the 90 gallon there was 475(I believe) with the stand, light and hood. If you bought a heater filter and gravel there. So once add the cost of the gravel heater filter its going to be about anywhere to 750-800 bucks... Is that a pretty good buy for that size of tank? (its been a while since I’ve owned fish tanks) Was also at Pisces Pet Emporium and their 90 gallon tank was 750 just for the tank, stand, hood, and light. I was like damn just for that nothing else. Thought it was a bit over priced? Think there was a 60 or so for about 500 and some. I live in the Calgary area, are they other places I should check out a swell?
  24. Been doing some reading on a few sites and been thinking about getting about in. Found a 90 gallon tank that id like to buy but not sure. Seemed like a good buy for the tank stand light and hood. Stuff adds up fast. Anyways Id most likely go with a canister filter with a 90. The RENA Filstar XP 3 Canister is recommended for aquariums up to 175 gallons in size and the RENA Filstar XP 2 Canister is recommended for aquariums up to 75 gallons in size. Should I get the bigger filter? Now for heating. The tank will be on the main floor of the house. Will a 200 watt heater be enough, or should spend a bit more money and get the 300watt heater? Wattage is what about 3-4watts per gallon so going that way a 300 should be enough. Guy at the LFS said a 200 would be just fine, but I’m not sure, that’s what’s getting me confused..
