Trying to decide what to put on the bottom of my new tank but not sure if I want dark or light. I am wondering if it is completely preference and lighting to make the fish stand out or if it really does matter depending on the fishes natural habitat? Also which looks better to brighten the fishes colours? I know probably sounds like a completely stupid question but I can't find anything on it.

Hi everyone, Very excited to be gathering all the items to start up my first tank in 7 years (yes I have been counting). I have a 38 g tank and going to start off with some Angels and a parrot fish. Looking to add another SA cichlid just not sure what yet. Trying to find a small breed cause I know the Angels and parrot need more room and they are my favourites. Hoping to get a bigger tank sooner rather than later but we will see
