  1. All for my Bichirs, possibly a smaller stingray or two What type of canister filter would you reccomend to keep it clean... I am thinking either (other suggestions will absolutely be considered) Rena Filstar XP3 - 350gph flow - says its rated for a 175g tank Eheim Professionel II 2028 - 277gph flow - says its rated for 158g Either way... I will also be running a Penguin Bio-Wheel 330 in there as well Right now the Filstar XP3 is on sale for $179.99 at Pisces, and I believe the Eheim is $459.99. Even though there is a huge price difference, and has less flow per hour, I am still leaning towards the Eheim. I have one of the XP3 filters on my 180g turtle tank (about 80-90g of water in it) and I am really not that impressed with its performance. Cost isn't really all that important to me, and I wont settle for "ok" filtration since stingrays like it quite clean. Of course... if you guys think a completely different setup is needed, feel free to let me know. I wont be filling the tank with water until June 24th (was only built on the 10th, silicone needs to cure) so I have a lot of time to decide what to do.
  2. WOW! Quite the impressive collection you have
  3. They were labeled as "Patriot Crabs".... they are basically crabs, that live on land. They're about 3 1/2" diameter and apparently can get 8-10", bright reddish orange, with a nice black pattern on the top, really nice looking, but very painful pinchers I wish I had a digital camera so I could show just how nice they look
  4. hehe, my ornates do seem to like hiding more than my senegals, though they do seem to enjoy chasing my clown loaches
  5. almost the same as beardies, though they like it more humid, and absolutely love to climb... I have only had my frilled for about a week though, so its still getting used to the new home
  6. I absolutely fell in love with the first Bichir (senegalus) I ever saw.... and decided I had to buy all 3 that were in the tank Since then, I have added another Senegal, and 2 damn beautiful Ornates to my collection My original 3 were only about 2 1/2" when I got them... hasnt taken them long at all to reach 7-8" already, my Ornates are slightly smaller at about 6 1/2" I only have them in a 54 gallon tank at the moment, but within 2-3 weeks I will have a nice big 180+ gallon custom tank for them My most recent purchase... my 10" Senegal is in with my Red Tail Barracudas and their 90 gallon... and loving it These fish are truly enjoyable to watch
  7. Well... that depends on your definition of small They can get up to 20" from what I have read
  8. Hi, I have been reading these boards for a couple weeks now, but was too lazy to sign up I have been keeping fish for basically my entire life, mostly just community tanks. As of late I have a hugely renewed interest in aquariums, basically spending every spare penny on new fish, mostly the "different fish" though I am looking to set up a nice cichlid tank in the near future. Right now I have... 4 Senegal Bichir 2 Ornate Bichir 4 Clown Loaches 3 Red Tail Barracuda 4 Rapidly growing Red Tiger Oscars 1 Vampire Shrimp Various plecos and cleaner fish 1 Community tank (Guppies, barbs, tetras, rasboras, loaches) ~20 Large Koi 1 Albino Channel Cat 1 Blue Channel Cat As for non-fish 6 Red Eared Sliders 3 Bearded Dragons 1 Frilled Dragon 2 Indonesian Land Crabs 2 Budgies I think thats everything... hope I didn't miss anyone
