  1. I bought a used tank off someone from a local community message board for a good price! Nice size, too, 50 gal. but, the guy who sold it to me just used a few sheets of glass as a canopy, and laid a crappy, half broken light on top. I have some decent lights, but I don't have a hood, and I want to get rid of that glass as soon as possible. My LFS can't order me a lid because of the obscure measurements (outside measurements 36.5 x 18.25, inside measurements from lip 34.75 x 16.5). Anyone know where I can order one online maybe? Even if I can order it from out of town, it would be ok, it's a real eyesore...........
  2. I have little creepy crawlies all over a piece of store bought ( and safety sealed) driftwood. They're tiny little bug things, I can't get a good enough look at them to see what they actually are. What should I do to get rid of them? Maybe thats why my frog keeps trying to go AWOL. I don't want to chuck it, its a perfect shape for him to sit on in the evenings after his nummies, and I don't want to use anything harsh on it, because he'll get sick and die. Any help would be awesome, as I'm quite clueless about the whole thing.
  3. My favorite thing about them is watching them explore the caves and rocks they have in the tank............ My least favorite (aside from deaths, luckily, there have been no unexplained in almost a year) is my idiot Johanni constantly digging up my plants, moving the substrate around, and knocking the rocks over in the process. He's such a nuisance sometimes.
  4. FOUND HIM! little twerp was hiding in my 3 year old son's sandal, under the aquarium stand........he was cold, but still kinda damp, and perky. He was NOT impressed to go back to his home, but he ain't the boss, after all........Gone 10 hours, scared the crap outta me. He won't be getting out again, I used lots of duct tape around the screen. he's grounded for life.
  5. It's funny how he escaped the same night the finale of Prison Break was on, maybe I shouldn't have let him watch so much tv........... what can I do to attract him from wherever he is hiding? Put the cricket container on the floor? Bowls of water? I can't find him anywhere.............he's a big fat White's tree frog, and I have a big fat house with lots of hiding places..............PLEEEEEEEEEEEEEASE give me some suggestions!
  6. Thanks! well, it's not horrible, considering I'm brand new to this. The tank has more rocks now, and I'm in the process of a DIY lava rock background. It should be really nice when its finished

    Hello

Hi! I'm Marquita, but my parents call me Barracuda (don't ask). I live in Fort mcMurray, I've been married for just about 9 years, and I have 2 boys, aged 3 and almost 2. I haven't worked in 4 years, and have no plans on doing so anytime soon, but I used to be a dog groomer and dental office manager. Just not in the same building........ I'm new to the whole fish scene, but I'm learning quickly, and getting better at it as I go. My husband thinks I'm obsessed. I agree.
  8. i got these.............
  9. I have these in my 50 gallon setup: Blue Johanni Yellow Lab Plecostomus Snow White Socoloff Female black peacock Male peacock Auratus Male Auratus Female venustus Red Zebra Male Kenyi Female Kenyi Male Blue Cobalt Female Blue Cobalt Convict Cichlid named Jeffrey, whom I hate, he's nothing but a nuisance, I'd flush him, but I'd feel guilty. I used to have a HUGE beautiful male peacock, but he died of some kind of fungus that didnt respond to treatment, 2 boring jewel cichlids that I used to cycle my tank when I first set it up, they looked ratty when I bought them, and an electric blue crayfish, who died just last month during his 8th molt, he couldn't get his claws out of his shell, and died of exhaustion.....poor thing I don't know if it's a good mix for expert enthusiasts, but the pet store here didn't tell me that convicts suck and not to get them, and I'm still learning about what fish are good with what. Oh, and I have a 29 gallon vivarium with a fat White's tree frog in it.
  10. I found out about this site via Google. I knew about a dozen or so cichlid forums, but they were all American, so I googled Alberta cichlid forums, and got this site! And I'm really glad I did
  11. Hi I'm Barracuda, from Fort McMurray.......I just got obsessed with cichlids last summer, and it's more fun than I imagined! I have a 50 gal mostly malawi setup, and a 29 gal with a tree frog in it. If and when he kicks the bucket, I'll set that tank up for more cichlids. Horrible thing to say about him, he's such a nice froggie.........my kids LOVE him! Glad to be part of this forum, I'm sure I'll learn lots from everyone
