  1. There are not too many of the S.afrofischeri being shipped anywhere lately (last few years) and if I remember right Chiloglanis of any kind do not ship very well and it is rare to see any of the species available at all. If you can find some once settled in the right conditions they do okay.

  2. Just to add one more thing...I do not want to be the voice of doom and it is most likely these ones are the real thing but this is one of the species that hybrids are regularly passed off as...mostly unknowingly by suppliers.

So just a word of warning to be sure of what you are getting.(I would ask for pictures)

  3. I've heard rumors of people catching bullheads in the Bow River in Calgary.

I think it would be just that, rumors, the ecology of the river is all wrong at that point....... sculpins maybe.

As much as I would love to have them around they just do not belong here.

As mentioned above take a trip to BC, I am not sure how much hassle proper permits would be to be able to keep them alive.

Those are introduced populations as well.

  4. I wouldn't rule out the discus as eating the tetras either; they are a cichlid, and an opportunistic predator. Some are probably fine with small fish, whereas others may see them as food.

Yeah, I would agree with this, more likely especially if what you are calling upside down catfish are Synodontis nigriventris (there are a few others that can end up with this name as well)

Both cats are riverine species from Africa, but do well with Rift Lake cichlids, too.

Petricola's (or lucipinnis) are from the lake as stated above... if you have S.nigriventris(upside down catfish) you should not put them with rift lake cichlids, they will survive... for a while, but do not like the water conditions and do not compete well with the cichlids, being fairly shy...it is just not a good idea for their well being.

  5. Using cyps for feeders, nothing but the best for your cats

I have 10 and just finished moving a few into the other tank, was worried they would start to beat each other, they seem to be getting more and more active as they get used to things here.I will have to watch closely though maybe keeping the larger group together actually kept aggression spread out.

  6. WHAT SIZE TANK DID YOU HAVE THEM IN?

I have them in a tank that has a footprint 18 by 36 and is 16(inches) high, it was just my quarantine but I had more than enough caves and various rocks including some strips of slate on the vertical (approx.3x11) breaking things up into little territories which may have helped to keep the aggression curbed.I also have a 25 gal. for them that I can throw a pair into if needed and I am putting a few in a 50 gal. with some S.lucipinnis(the old petricola dwarf) and multi's to see how they do.

    WHAT WERE YOU FEEDING THEM?

Nothing special, I was alternating nightly feedings between NLS(3 ml sinking pellets) and frozen bloodworms, for the fry I was planning to get some kind of worm culture going(I try to avoid this) but I was not ready for the first fry and have been feeding cyclopeze(not sure if they are eating this)but mostly minced(with a razor) bloodworms, the first time I fed the larger batch of fry they dug into the bloodworm right away as I watched.I have gathered feeding the fry when they are a little bigger actually gets harder so I will see what happens.

syno321 I recognize your screenname from occasional forays into PC,someone from Edm. got a group of these from Gold's also with the intent of breeding, was that you ?

  7. 1 mato grosso pleco

    2 bristlenose plecos

You probably know this but all of these are bristlenose catfish, thats a common name for ancistrus types of catfish which these both are,the Mato is a dwarf species called Ancistrus claro

With that many in a tank are you feeding them any extra veggies?

Also watch your Mato it may not compete very well with the other bristlenose's if they are larger, if they are not larger yet, they will be.

  8. You will not have a problem as stated earlier with the Mato harming the others,it will be a nice combination.

Will it be an all catfish tank or are there other types of fish as well?

you could possibly get some spawning action going(if it's just the cats)

  9. A few pics for those of you who missed out on these when Gold's had them

Got my group in December.....they were still in quarantine but they seem to like that tank, everyone is getting along fine.

I am pleased with my results so far, things are happening faster than I thought they would.
