  1. These guys are supposed to be the best in the business. http://www.aquariumillusions.com/contactus.htm
  2. Here's an excellent how-to thread on that topic (equipment hidden beautifully, and an entertaining read): aquahobby styrofoam backing project Have fun with it!
  3. I know Colby at Elite said he did custom tanks. But I'm not sure about the cost or timeline. You'd have to ask him.
  4. Give it a little more time. It will take another couple of weeks to rid the tank of symptoms. The ich isn't visible because it's been forced into another developmental stage by the raised temperature. With luck, you'll be able to kill off most of it.

    Hello!

Hey, Shai! Fancy meeting you here! -roll-
  6. Stopped in on Saturday, and I was impressed. They already have a fair selection of SW fish, inverts and corals, and the dry goods selection is excellent. The owner took the time to demonstrate the store refractometer to me, even though he knew I wasn't going to be buying one that day. I'll definitely be going back! Their till isn't up and running yet, though. Cash only at the moment. They do have an ATM next door, and they'll reimburse for the transaction fee. Looking forward to the grand opening!
  7. What kind of Algae Eater? Chinese Algae Eaters are well known for attacking other fish in the tank. They tend to get more ornery as they get older. That could easily be the source of the wound.
  8. Oh, geez, I can't believe I forgot to mention ferts. I'm putting slow-release fertilizer tabs in the substrate and dosing every water change with PMDD. I do plan to have a really cheap filter running; it came with the tank. I'm also planning to stock it a tad heavily, so that should help me get away with a little bit more (betta, dwarf rasbora, dwarf cories, shrimp). I've been considering MTS; might end up ordering some from Melody. I've had red ludwigia recommended for that back section as well, and that might be what I end up going with; I like the idea of a different colour back there. I like the powerhead idea, but I worry that the current might be too much for my betta (technically, this tank is for him. I'm moving him out of the 46 to make room for some pearl gourami). Maybe if I found one with a really low flow rate... hmmmm.... No post is too long . Thanks!
  9. Here's the plan for my ten gallon tank; everything is drawn to scale. It's a ten-gallon tank with 48 watts of full-spectrum lighting (screw in fluorescents), but once the plants are established, I'll tone down the wattage a little. It's been suggested that I replace the flourite with aquasoil for the hemianthus callitrichoides; this is in the works. I have a few other questions: Does anyone have experience with weeping moss? I've heard so many conflicting things about it, I'm starting to get confused. Will it go crazy in this tank and require daily pruning? Or worse, will it sunburn and not grow like it should? I'm planning to grow it draped over a branch of bogwood, so it will hang down, filling in the space between the tallest retaining wall and the rock. H. callitrichoides (cuba): it should grow over the rocks a little bit and hang down, right? I've seen pictures of it grown that way, but it looked like it might have been an emersed form... Suggestions for a taller plant (not grass) for the right side at the back? I have a feeling that anything I put back there will require constant pruning... is there anything tall that grows a bit more slowly, but has attractive foliage? Part of the purpose of this particular plant is to hide the heater, CO2 ladder, etc. The rocks should slow down the plants so that they stay more or less contained...right? The drawing is to scale, so the rocky area is actually quite wide. I'm siliconing between the rocks to try to prevent the flourite from seeping through and mixing with the sand. Comments? Questions? Suggestions?

    Hello, Hello!

My last one went pale and peaky. The lighting I have really is inferior. But like I said, Herman the clown loach likes to chew little holes in the crazy thing, so it'll have to be replaced anyway. (at least I think it's him that's eating it! I don't have any snails, and I've heard that CL's tend to eat swords). Hey, Grapeape! Good to see ya!

    Hello, Hello!

Wow, lots of questions. Ok! 1. I'm from Okotoks (just outside Calgary) 2. Tanks: 46 gallon bowfront with 2 angels, 1 betta, 1 clown loach, platys (soon to be moved) otos, neon tetras, rummy-nosed tetras, harlequin rasbora and 'Malaysian Rainbow Shrimp' (from Riverfront; it took me a while to figure out the species). Fully planted with anubias, java fern, crypt and an amazon sword (which I don't have the lighting for and will have to replace in a few months. But that's ok, as Herman has made it his own personal snack bar) 20 gallon which is fishless cycling at the moment. (my sister's tank, actually. But I have a feeling I may end up doing a lot of the maintenance) Mostly I prefer community tanks. I love the way schooling fish zoom around the tank. I am hoping to attempt a SW FOWLR tank in a few years, though. Just a 30 gallon with an Oce clown and maybe a goby. Something simple.

    Hello, Hello!

I was just referred here by grapeape on aquahobby (have the same username there). It's so nice to find a decent local aquarium site! Hoping for a long and fruitful relationship
