Sorry to hear about your fish troubles! Did you tear down/ clean the tank?

You know what, they did look a little beaten up. I got some fish from my brother...he did not want a cichlid tank anymore. I think that was back in Feburary. 2 haps ( I don't know what they are), and a tropheus, and 5 clown loaches. I though they were ok...aggression wise. I guess I was wrong. If I was to get rid of the newer fish, how would I do that? Would I just ask people on this forum?

hi, Just wondering how long yellow labs and rusties typically live? Peacocks? Given that I have given them good water (maintence) and food and have only had 1 ich issue. I'm asking because I've had 6 fish die on me this past month including my male ngra(sp?) flametail male. I bought them as 1" juvies about 4 years ago, and the peacock 2 years ago. Did they die of old age or did I have something else going on in my tank? And should I buy another flametail male for the female?

Sorry to hear about your loss! Just wondering, I have gravel in my 75G cichlid tank...can there be bad pockets in gravel substrate?

I have 2 adult dolphins and I was wonding how to sex them. I know they are not a dimorphic sp. but would the male be bigger or darker, etc? I have seen them lock mouths the odd time...they mostly get along. Also, would it be a good idea to introduce juv. into the tank? I'd like a few more. Would the older 2 be aggressive towards the juvies?

I was wondering why the pic I loaded for my profile is missing from any posts I add. Is it too big? And if it is how do I reduce the size?

Anyone have a suggestions on a good FS to visit while I'm in Vancouver? I may buy cichlid food and supplies for the tank if the prices are better than in Calgary.

Should I put my list here or inthe cichlid area? The fish seem fine now....I put in some Melafix that week...maybe they needed to figure out who was 'top dog'. I need some fish IDs too....I'll try to take some pic tonight.

Actually, cleaning the tank with a big belly was ok...just awkward. My hubby would leave the python for me and I'd be set. As far as I know, there are no dangerous parasites in fish water...unlike cat poo.

ok, thanks for the advice. I will have someone checking the house, but he does not know how to feed fish...so I an automatic feeder seemed a good idea. I'll get them to make sure the filter is running.

Hello, I know I joined the forum in 2006, but I never got a chance to say hello! I inherited an old 76 gallon tank from my brother and set up a cichlid tank with 10 little fishies and 1 BN. Then, I got married, had a baby and had a small population explosion in the tank. (BTW, cleaning a tank while 8 months pregnant is a bit awkward...) I can't believe I'm going to admit to this, but I got attached to all the little baby fishes born in the tank! So, my bother had to convince me to sell the extras...for the good of the tank! A week later, he again convinced me to take his cichlids because he was moving and did not have room for his tank. Now, I don't know what to do with the new fish, so I logged onto Alberta aquatica and thought I'd ask! So, where do I ask about my "new" fish set-up? They seem fine, but there is more chasing and missing fins....and how long does a fluval impeller last? Thanks! farleyfish

how do you feed veggies to cichlids? and what kind and how often? If I feed them good quaility flake/pellets, do I need to suppliment them with fresh/frozen veggies? I always wondered if fish enjoy variety in their diet. I have yellow labs, rusties, pecocks, dolphins, buffaloheads, clown loaches, a pleco and a BN.

Hi, I need to buy a fish feeder while I"m away for 2-3 weeks a time. Anyone have any advice on brands? I've read the Eheim 3581 is good. I feed flake and pellets to my cichids/plecos in my 75G.
