  1. ah...frank is frank...lol. alright, i'll poke around some more in town for a good price on the fx5 and pick up two 300 watt heaters. like I said, i'm hoping to do an fx5 and an ac110 for filtration...given that i'm keeping the stocking levels low I think that should be enough.
  2. so if I were to put 2 300 watts in the tank and the room is decent temperature to begin with it should be ok? and, uh, who's frank on here?
  3. I'm wondering who in calgary has the best price on the fluval FX5, and an AC110(I'm lookin to get both). I'd rather buy locally to support a local merchant, and to have someone to go to if something goes wrong. also need advice on heating options for a 250 gallon.
  4. thanks for all the pointers so far people I actually ended up buying a tank a little bigger than I had been looking at, picked up a 250 gallon (well don't have it home yet, picking it up around the first of the month since I just bought a new place) now to start to work on securing all the other little things I want for the tank. anyone with suggestions on heating for a 250 gallon?
  5. sorry, I mighta missed this but where in calgary can I go to get said limestone?
  6. from my understanding the Electric blues tend to run their females ragged, so I was thinkin of 1:4 or 2:5 for those...same with the others. I'm hoping I can find all of them in similar sizes for a start. thanks for the help on the demasoni...they should add some fun to the tank if nothing else :P
  7. well after taking a while off I've decided that now that I've bought a new house, so I don't have to worry about moving the tank around every year, I should start up a new tank. I'm planning to do a fairly large tank(150+ gallon). The only part of the decor I've decided on for sure so far is that I'm going with the black sand and probably some form of lava rock or something along those lines(the slate slabs from the last tank were just to much work). my current plan is to keep the tank fairly sparsely populated, and I wanted to do the following: ~5 Electric Blue (Sciaenochromis fryeri) ~7 Ruby Red Peacock ~7 Electric Yellow ~5 Mpimbwe Frontosa while I know the mpimbwe don't really belong with the others, well, the girlfriend and I really like em. Anyway, the question is, is there anything else that people would recommend I put with these? I know the peacocks might limit my other choices. Will the fish I already have in my list conflict badly with each other? would demasoni get beat up or beat everything up(from my understanding they're not very good in a community setting)
  8. R6? I ride an 05 R6, I really want to get into track riding but I just can't afford the replacement parts...
  9. yeah...see...everyone seems to do that mix, dunno, I was hoping to have some red in the tank, but the only thing I can think of is a peacock and that'll get it's @$$ kicked...
  10. anything in with your demasoni? I was thinking in around the 15 - 20 mark for the 55 gallon, should give it plenty of movement what with all the turf wars...
  11. Alright, so after a year of living in an apartment, I've decided to get back outta here and move to a house, and in doing so I will now be able to set up some tanks again, I've found myself a 55 gallon set up that I intend to purchase, and I've decided I'm going to use a moon sand substrate with some medium to dark colored rocks, or maybe lava rock as decoration. Last time around when I was running tanks I had found some pictures of Demasoni and really wanted to try them, but between their agression levels and the stocking level of my tank at the time, I was to worried about them destroying everything else in the tank. So my idea this time is to start with the demasoni, possibly a BIG group(for a 55 gallon) of them to try to help with spreading the agression a little bit. but after that I have no idea what to put with them, I've seen a lot of examples of people putting yellow labs with them...just wondering about some other ideas and of course there'll be a bristlenose pleco :P
  12. I'm selling my Rebel XTi with two lenses for $900...just thought I'd throw that in there...
  13. very nice lithobates...I had one that was starting to look like that...then he freaked out on me...now he's a muted grey all the time loser fish
  14. I only have one big tank and didn't want the rest of my fish to be dead? :P
  15. figured I'd hop on this one... dolphin(managed to capture him in the brief moment when he wasn't terrorizing the female) jewel, female is just out of the shot on this one...couldn't get a good shot of the two of them together. Red Empress(just starting to show color in the body, didn't really show up) Red Zebra(inlcuded him because he's the very first fish I bought, and has grown a lot)
  16. not sure if they're all malawi...but deffinately mostly. and most of the species she has pictured get way to big for a 10 gallon.
  17. my bet's on an albino taiwan reef(mostly because I have two, and know that she has taiwan reefs) gina, that red empress looks like it's going to be stunning...mine is(I'm assuming) slightly smaller and just starting to show red in his body...super pumped nice fish
  18. my father in law just started a nano cube a couple weeks ago here...he has two clowns and one blue tang(and some assorted coral and a fire shrimp), today I looked in the tank and it looks like the tang has ich...was wondering what he should do, or if this is indeed ich...sorry for the not so great pictures, little thing is fast and just won't sit still :S at the moment it does not appear to be affecting the clowns, should I take the tang out of the tank asap or what?
  19. if you wish for your opinion to have any meaning to the general public you may wish to check the spelling on your posts before posting, and at the same time, turn the caps off. Otherwise people will just assume you're a kid that doesn't actually have a clue about what you are talking about.
  20. can anyone verify wether or not the jewel cichlids are still alive in banff? or should I call the park to find out? The jewels in our tank are the girlfriends favorite(and pretty high on my list as they're fearless little bastards) so we're thinkin of maybe headin out there one day to see them as we both think it'd be pretty cool
  21. cool...would be cool to see I suppose, although the longnose dace was probably cooler by some accounts.
  22. wouldn't that water be really cold? how could a jewel cichlid survive?
  23. errr...geez...my list used to be up to date, but it isn't at the moment...off the top of my head: 2 red jewels(male and female, not actively spawning at the moment) 3 electric blue hap(2 male 1 female) 2 red empress(believe they are both male) 1 O. lithobates(male) 2 Blue Dolphin(1 LARGE male, 1 female) 4 Electric Yellow(range from about 2 inches to about 4.5) 2 Metriaclima Callainos(about 2" not sure of the gender) 2 Pseudotropheus Saulosi(appear to be both males, one just colored up, one still orange) 4 Melanochromis cyaneorhabdos(1" - 4") 1 Aulonocara Lwanda(Male) 5 clown loaches under 2.5" I'm thinkin that's pretty accurate, this is in a 96, there's a LOT of little caves and what not in there(used slabs of slate to make a big stack in the middle), I'm running an XP3, and an air pump. with listing all that's in there I think I might be a little over crowded, but I'm not sure, so I'll leave that to you guys to get mad at me for I did some more tests on the water tonight and again it checks out pretty damn good. I would have expected the amonia to at least have a small amount since I did a water change today(roughly 30%) and I used prime...nitrite tested below 0.25 ppm...grr
  24. disaster struck today...came home and had 3 dead and two on the way out of various species...don't know what to think at this point, can't see anything really wrong with any of the fish, no signs of ick, didn't see any signs of damage before hand...one of the dead ones had a fare sized gash in his side, looked like it might have been from a rock...but all the other ones looked fine...I really don't know :S
  25. I was wondering if anyone else has had issues with these fish, as of this morning I have lost three females(the big male's still doing peachy though). the females are lasting a while then just randomly kicking the bucket on me...no real signs of aggression on any of the other fish, and haven't really noticed any on the females either. I don't know what to think...water checks out good, so I'm totally at a loss...
