I am planning on buying a 10 gal (non planted) fairly soon. I have a 20 gal running and want to try and convert it to a low light planted tank. The 20 has standard hood with 15 watt NO bulb. Here is what I want to try: buy the 10 gal with an incandescent hood, replace the bulbs with cf bulbs that equal 40-50 watts incandescent. Then either swap the light housings or gut each housing and switch ballasts and lights.
The end result would be 2-2.5 wpg in the 20g and the 10g has more than enough light for what I need.
Any thoughts, ideas, criticisms?
Thanks,
Mike
