Bubble nest question

.... but I've only had the betta a few months. Monday, he blew his first bubble nest, today it's disappeared. There also appears to be a very thin film on top of the water. Why the film? Do bubble nests usually just disappear if the fish isn't actively working on the nest?

(tank is 10 gallons, with HOB filter, no tankmates, or medication added recently)

Thanks

Yes. They have to work on the bubble nest all the time. The film would be the spit that was left over after the bubbles popped. They use a special chemical in their spit to make the bubbles stronger.

He will probably go back to it.

I had a betta that liked to build is nest right in the strong current from the filter. It was often gone within hours, then he would just go back and build it in the same place.

Perhaps the feng shui was correct only in the one spot.
