BigA
i have 1 million....and counting cone shaped snails in my 90 gallon tank. what would be the best way to wipe these multiplying pests out...please help!! I am just getting over the same issue. Grab some Botia sp loach's and throw them in the tank. For some reason, the Botia loaches absolutly love to feast on snails. Kuhlis and weather loaches are not the way to go. I got a Zebra loach, Botia striata from Nature's and it is doing the trick. For a 90 put in 3. Provided you don't have africans or large predatory fish in the tank. Henry at natures had mentioned that there was a some sort of chemical additive you could put in as well, but I was kinda wary about doing that. Clown loaches and Yo-yo's are good too, although the clowns grow quite large (I've seen one about a foot long) and need to be housed accordingly Zebra Loach http://www.loaches.com/species-index/botia-striata Yo-Yo Loach http://www.loaches.com/species-index/botia-almorhae Clown Loach http://www.loaches.com/species-index/clown...ia-macracanthus Hope this helps! Qattarra
Loaches are great , you may just want to sift out the largest of the snails though. Is it a planted tank? I keep the population low but active in my planted tank as these guys are helpful. I do the( once every 3 month aprox.) cleaning by removing everything like the wood, rocks, caves etc. and just use the big net to sift out a good number of the snails. This loosens debris from the substrate which in turn gets caught in the filter which gets tidied up later that day. Water changes are every week but my big cleaning only goes once in awhile. As most of my plants are attached or free floating , only some are in the sand, this leaves me large areas to tidy up. In a densely planted tank you may want to use the loaches so you don't disturb the plants.
Vallisneria
Loaches are the easiest way to control snails. but if you can't add loaches, make sure you aren't overfeeding or have plant debris that is decaying. If you remove the food source the snail population will shrink on its own. At night you can also put a piece of zuchini in a dish. Wait untill the snails come out to eat it and then remove it along with all the snails that cover it.Repeat as necessary to keep the snail pop. down.
