FishBrain
The Scottish Government has ALMOST decided to establish our country’s first Marine Reserve, a No Take Zone that will provide a safe breeding ground for fish and other marine species in Lamlash Bay, just off the Isle of Arran. A Public Consultation is underway; the climax of a 14year long campaign spearheaded by Community Of Arran Seabed Trust – COAST. http://arrancoast.co.uk/news/april08.html Three local divers discovered a maerl bed in the bay – home to a myriad of sea creatures - and have dedicated heroic amounts of time trying to save this marine jewel for future generations. http://www.arrancoast.co.uk Like coral reefs and old-growth forest, maerl beds take thousands of years to grow and are irreplaceable cradles of bio-diversity. Most everyone agrees that a living ocean is vitally important but parliament will only act if it hears a loud, clear voice of approval from lots of people. Individuals and organisations from all over the world are invited to participate in the consultation. Numbers count. Our community is just a few thousand souls. A big show of support will make the idea of a Marine Sanctuary a reality. This window of opportunity is open only until June 5th 2008. Please act now, help Save Our Seabed! Email your comments to lamlashbayconsultation@scotland.gsi.gov.uk It’s free and takes very little time. A short, simple message is fine, for example “Yes to the Lamlash Bay Marine Reserve. Please make it bigger to ensure the protection of sea life.” Include your name / group name and full address. Postal Address, instant email link to the consultation and more info here: http://www.arrancoast.co.uk/news/april08.html Do you have an extra minute to forward this email to your friends and associates? Imagine ripple effect! Thank you so much for your consideration. Best Wishes, Deirdre J.
