As far as the salt and fresh water fish swimming together go, both can live in the other's environment for a short period of time. Thus, freshwater baths for marine fish and saltwater baths for freshwater fish to kill external parasites. If a batch of water was mixed at half marine strength to form a brackish salinity, both types of fish could live for hours or days. If it seems too good to be true............
