DaveDude77
Hi all, simple question, I think. When measuring an aquarium, are you supposed to measure the inside or outside of the tank? In smaller tanks I realize it doesn't matter much because of the thin glass but in larger tanks you've got about 1/2" of glass and and that could make a difference. So which is the proper way to measure them?
thegrandpoohbah
Manufacturers measure the outside dimensions. So usually, you get a little less water volume than what you bargained for.
DaveDude77
Thanks for clearing that up for me, Poohbah.
punman
Yeah, when buying one, expect that format and sometimes rounding up eg. 179 = 180 gal But if you are calculating for medications and stuff maybe use the "true" volume. DaveDude77
That's a good point, Punman. When dosing, purifying, calculating WPG, and what-not, I guess a person should use the inner dimentions.
