Goldy
I have a 38 gal planted tank with currently approx. 1 watt/gal of lighting, I beleive 2 watts/gal is mostly recommanded, correct? So if that is the case, what light fixture is most widely used? The tank is 36" long & would be looking at about 80 watt range for the 2 watt/gal. werner
It depends on what type of plants you want to grow and whether or not you plan to add CO2. It's recommended that you add CO2 if you have over 2.5 wpg. Regular fluorescent bulbs probably wouldn't cut it unless you had quite a few on there. T5HO (2x39W) would be a good choice, as would power compact (1x96W).
firestorm
You can get coralife fixtures or the Hagen glo T5HO fixtures, which seem to both be pretty popular for using on smaller planted tanks. I have a 30" coralife double bulb fixture where each bulb is 65 watts. Then I also have a 48" hagen glo T5HO double fixture and the bulbs are only 54 watts each. So you have plenty of good options, and I have posted links for the fixtures I have below http://www.hagen.com/canada/english/aquati...ghtProg2_EN.cfm http://www.oceanicsystems.com/products/fre...inear-strip.php
