  1. I have a 90 gal tank currently with about 25 Demasoni's in it. I am thinking of keeping about 12 or so Demasoni's and adding in a bunch of male peacocks. Would I be looking for trouble if I went with that setup? If I could get away with it, how many peacocks would be recommended? Would the Demasoni's just chase each other & leave the peacocks alone? Thanks.
  2. Just wondering if there is a good site to order cichlids online from? If there is how was your experiences, any problems? Thanks
  3. Hey Harold, just wondering if you have any access to Bolivian red rams & also Bosemani Rainbows? Thanks
  4. Hey Harold, could I get 15 of the 3/4"-1" Demasoni's. Could you let me know when a finalized date to Edmonton will be. Thanks
  5. Hey Harold, do you know when the next shipment to Edmonton will be? I may be interested in 15 of the pseudotropheus demasoni - 3/4 - 1" - $5 each Also do you have any of the Mikrogeophagus ramirizi (Bolivian red rams)? Thanks
  6. How did you figure out that it is 9 ppm of nitrates 3x/week? Is it something to do with the 20ml & the amount of gallons, is there a formula to use? I have a drop checker with the 4dkh solution (I believe that is what it is if my memory is correct)so the co2 levels should be around the adequate levels. I will be dosing roughly 3/8 tsp for KH2P04, K2S04 & trace 3x/week. Let me know if I would be on the right track. Thanks
  7. yup, it is 250g into a 1 litre solution (1:4 ratio)
  8. My question is in regards to KNO3, I have a 90 gal tank so if I take the middle of 60-80 & 100-125 gallons it is approx. 1 tsp for the 90 gal. The solution comes mixed at 1:4 solution so that would be 4 tsp. To get it to millilites the conversion is 1 tsp = 5 ml, so 4 tsp = 20 ml. So I would need to dose 20ml 3 times a week (is my math correct??) Also if I dose everything at 1/2 the recommendations could I do a water change every 2 weeks instead of every week. Thanks Goldy
  9. So I took the plunge & got myself some dry ferts, I am going to try the PPS Pro method to start. I have 2-500ml bottles. So I am mixing 40 grams of trace in one bottle & 30 grams of K2SO4, 32 grams KNO3 & 3 grams of KH2PO4 in the other bottle. So my question is with the KNO3 because it is in liquid form (250 grams mixed in a 1 litre bottle with water). How many mils do I add to the mixture? Thanks for your help in advance Goldy
  10. Hey Harold, could I purchase 12 of the Mikrogeophagus ramirizi (Bolivian red rams) for $3.50. Do you have any of the Otto's left? Thanks Goldy
  11. Hi Harold, just wondering if you have any "Mikrogeophagus ramirizi (Bolivian red rams)", or when you could get some more, also when is your next Edmonton delivery. Thanks
  12. Another question on this, I was talking to someone for regulators & they asked about how much delivery pressure I would need (or how much draw pressure)? Also with the bubble counter, where does that go, is it something you buy seperate & hook it up to the regulator? Anything else that I would need besides tank, regulator, bubble counter, I have a mini elite for a delivery system? Thanks
  13. What is the difference between a 2 stage regulator & a single stage?
  14. I am looking at setting up a CO2 system for a 90 gal planted & have a bunch of questions. Where do you purchase the materials (tank, etc)? What size of tank would be recommended & how often do you have to fill it up? What would be the cost roughly to get it set up? Any other info any one could supply on this would be appreciated. Thanks
  15. Looking to find a place to purchase some black sand? As well as black plant substrate (flourite, latorite?) Also has anyone used river rock boulders (6" dia.) with the black sand, how does it look? Goldy
  16. Looking for opinions on the best place or price to buy HO T5 bulbs? Goldy
  17. I am re-doing my cichlid tank to a planted one soon & I want to clean up my filter tubes. Wondering if soaking in a water/bleach mix is a good way to go, if so what is the correct amount to mix, 20:1 water:bleach? Basically want to clean up some algae on them & give them a good scrubbing down as well. Also what is the best way to clean off the hard calcium build up that forms on the glass tops, I have tried vinegar but has anybody ever tried CLR, just give it a really good cleaning/soaking afterwards? Goldy
  18. So I have a 90 gallon cichlid tank & a 38 gallon planted tank. I am comtemplating getting rid of my cichlids & moving my planted tank to the 90 gallon. My question is what would you put in the 38 gallon tank then. Any suggestions welcome. I am just thinking right now about what to do. Thanks.
  19. My ph is 7.4 & hardness is 160 acording to the LFS. I could not get an accurate reading with my GH test kit. I have a Marineland C-220 canister filter with a DIY CO2, I removed a bunch of Vals as they were getting out of hand. My guess is that it is old tank syndrome. I must of released some gases when I went routing around in there. Lesson learned the hard way.
  20. I NEED HELP!! Baos might have an interesting theory. Yesterday when I got home the fish were swimming around like normal, Thrusday morning I noticed they were at the top sucking air & another 3 perished over night, plus 2 more when I got home from work Wednesday. The only other thing that I did was I have a small CO2 canister that I refilled, it has a bubble wall but took that out & routed the tubing to go to the filter intake. Tuesday I also got some plant clippings from some fellow members, I rinsed them & they are currently floating around right now. The tank has been running at its current location for 2.5 years, a few more years before I moved to this current location. I do a 1/3 water change about every 3 weeks vacuuming gravel so it does get disturbed. My vals grow like crazy so about 6 months ago I sort of did the same thing but not to this degree, just removed a bunch of vals so the substrate got disturbed at that point as well with no effects. I did not test ph or hardness, I use normal tap water treated with prime, nothing new there, my other tank is fine.
  21. I have a 38 gal planted tank, mainly out of hand Vals & a couple fair sized Crypts and a few others. I wanted to redo my tank so Monday night I ripped my plants out, this stirred things up quite a bit. I have small gravel mixed with Laterlite(?) for a substrate. Anyways changed out about 1/2 of the water & replanted my plants & a few vals. Tuesday everything was fine, water cleared & everything seemed normal. Wednesday before leaving for work I noticed my 3 Bosemani Rainbows & 2 tetras perished. I did not have time for any action except to remove them. Got home from work & my algae eater & another tetra where dead. I tested the water & did another water change of about 1/3. I did not clean my canister filter on either change. My test results were: ammonia = 0, nitrite = 0, nitrate = approx. 0 & phosphate = approx. 0. Any suggestions on why?
  22. I am planning on revamping my planted tank & I am looking for any extra plant clippings that you may be able to spare in the Edmonton area. If anybody could help me out that would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
  23. What does everybody do with there Vals that have gotten out of hand & are starting to take over the rest of the tank. I have a planted 38 gal & they have spread like crazy, sending out tons of runners as well as super long, some are getting to be 2 feet higher then the tank when I hold them straight up, so not all of the light are reaching the bottom plants. Question is how do you thin them out & make shorter. Do I just cut off the runners & trim the existing plants or cut them off at the base & let them grow again? Thanks.
  24. I have a 38 gal planted tank with currently approx. 1 watt/gal of lighting, I beleive 2 watts/gal is mostly recommanded, correct? So if that is the case, what light fixture is most widely used? The tank is 36" long & would be looking at about 80 watt range for the 2 watt/gal.
  25. I agree with what most everybody else is saying, put her in her own tank then remove her after she has regained her strength. I have tried this method as well as leaving her in the main tank to spit. In the main tank all of the babies evertually disappeared, whereas if they are in there own tank you can control things better. Good luck.
