roypark05
For those of you who have also seen my hemichromis thread on this board, you may be starting to wonder if I ever know what the hell I have in my aquariums. LOL, true to a degree I suppose. Any help identifying the species of this cichlid is much appreciated:
Boom
Looks like an OB zebra to me. Metriaclima zebra (OB). OB Zebra Boom :boom:
roypark05
That's be the guy. I bought him as an OB Zebra, but I never knew the species name. I figured it was something more scientific sounding than just Metriaclim "Zebra". LOL. Thanks for the link!
roypark05
Oh and while we're at it, see my avatar? OB Peacock, right? So is it an Aulonocara "Peacock" or what??? And another question since I'm already bugging you...are all OB cichlids hybrids?
Boom
Yup your avatar lookis like an OB peacock. Aulonacara OB. I have a real nice male myself. OB peacock The OB peacocks are hybrids, a cross between a peacock and an mbuna, but it isn't known which ones. I believe that OB zebras and several other OB varients are naturaly occuring in the lake. But I may be wrong about that. African_Fever
OB's are almost impossible to tell exactly which species they are unless you get a group of wild caughts. There are TONS of zebra-TYPE mbuna in Lake Malawi that have OB females, and the ones found in pet stores are most likely hybrids of some form or another. Met. estherae used to be fairly common in OB, though I honestly haven't seen them around here or Calgary at all for a while. So in all honesty, an OB zebra is about the most accurate (and truthful) ID you could ever get.
