Bullterrier
I was at petsmart last night. I noticed "Bamboo" in the plant tanks. Is this a true aquatic plant? Will it survive in an aquarium? Thanks
thegrandpoohbah
No, the leaves have to remain out of the water.
bignose
As long as the leaves are out of the water I believe. I was at petsmart last night. Bullterrier
I was pretty sure it wasn't. I am thinking maybe it is mislabeled. it is not lucky bamboo that i do know. it might be in the bamboo family.

werner
The plant sold as lucky "bamboo" is usually Dracaena sanderiana- a common houseplant.
thegrandpoohbah
There's a couple other plants in the Dracaena genus that are often sold as aquarium plants. None of them will survive very long when fully immersed in water.
byte
I had 2 of these "unknown" lucky bamboo given to be and both were placed in a 20g planted. One was long enough of a stem to reach the bottom and have its roots in the substrate without the leaves in the water. This plant is growing like mad. The other was a short plant and with the leaves above water, the stem only went down about 5 inches into the water. It lasted about a 1 year before wilting away. It never did grow much. I have since moved the surviver bamboo to a fry tank as I thought the bamboo was robbing all the nutrients and causing a algae problem.
