RD.
Scotch-Brite Dobie Cleaning Pad "Scours without scratching". One of the best (and cheapest) algae cleaners out there. I've yet to have to use a razor blade in any of my tanks. I also use Mag-Floats in all of my tanks, but when I need something for those next to impossible to remove algae spots, I break out the dobie pad. Edited May 13, 2009 by RD. BettaFishMommy
and you are not worried about any cleaning/anti-mildew agents that might be in the dobie pads?
RD.
Scotch Brite Dobie's don't contain any type of harmful substances. I've been using dobies for years with no problems, they are simply a sponge covered in a nylon mesh casing. I've used similar products (made for the aquatic industry) and none of them come even remotely close to the cleaning ability of a dobie. The beauty of the dobie is that while they will remove even the nastiest algae, they won't scratch the glass.

firestorm
Gold's magnets cleaners are probably the cheapest. I always use the magnet cleaner first then for hard spot algae I break out the scrubbies or razor blades It's easier on the arms.
