Yellow Lab question

This is merely a question for my own curiosity, but I appreciate any responses.

One of my yellow labs dies recently--he was the victim of some aggression that I didn't see, but can only ascribe to a recent tank change (to a bigger tank).

Anyway, I was watching this injured fish closely and wasn't sure if he would make it, but after not watching for an hour I returned to find him dead.

Here's the strange part ... he had been half-buried in the sand already ... not casually, but fairly deep. Is this something cichlids do with their dead? I've never seen it before so I'm curious if anyone has any comments on this.

If it was a cichlid funeral, I'm actually sorry I missed it.
