Cloudy Water After Water Changes

Edmonton water will also be cloudy for a minute or less

Every experiment needs a control.

Refilling with a bucket or hose?

:well: Is it simply cloudy water ?

When I fill the coffee pot from the tap it is cloudy for a minute, same filling from a hose into the tank directly is clouds the tank for a bit. (from time to time, not always but right now it is doing that.)

The dissolved Co2 would take the slimecoat off the discus when I was using a hose to fill directly from the tap: which was a big concern. When you use a storage container to mix the prime and then pump it in the tank the Co2 has dissipated and the slime coat remains intact. The prime has done its job by then as well.

This can happen in Edmonton regularly and I have no idea why, except that the large temperature changes could have something to do with that? I have had 4C coming out of the tap before.

After a fair bit of correspondence on various forums (some years ago) Co2 seemed like a likely culpret but then again I solved the problem with a storage barrel, and the coffee tastes fine. thumbup.gif

You need to up your waterchanges as well as your water is breaking down causing your ph to lower and then filling with new tap water will cause a big ph bounce. You also may not have enough biomedia for your bioload and that is why your ammonia lowers after awhile.

So I've been doubling up on the water conditioner for now and I don't seem to be getting anymore cloudy water. I will still buy the prime next time around.

I'm pretty sure you guys are right with the bioload as well. I'm in definite need of a new tank and filter sometime soon, my fish are getting pretty big for this tank.
