maniac
I recently bought a couple of wood shrimp and got them to my tank and both seemed to be doing well. Gradually last night and this morning, one started turning a pinkish colour. By late this morning, i found it on it's back/side in a pinkish/orange colour. I'm trying to determine if it died or molted. Having no experience with Shrimp like this can someone let me know? thanks,
Caprichoso
That's not good! Anytime (that I'm aware of) if a shrimp turns pink, it's dead or near death. A moult will look see-through. If it's a solid pinky/orange, it's a dead shrimp. Take it out and examine it to know for sure. Normally when shrimp eat wood, their colours may enhance and turn a bit reddish but I think in your case, there's a problem. Have you tested your water for ammonia? Shrimp are very sensitive to ammonia and cannot tolerate it at all. Good luck!
maniac
tested the ammonia and it is near zero so I don't think that's the issue.
heff
I had a single shrimp that eventually died, turning pink as you've found. If your parameters are low, I can't imagine what would've killed it? 73-82 degrees is apparently the range to keep them at as well.
gBOYsc2
Possibly high nitrates? Also iirc these wood shrimp are filter feeders, they have fans on their hands and they eat microscopic stuff. Maybe there was a lack of food in the aquarium for them? Ron
I would check all your water parameters but sounds like ceviche to me, have you tested the pH?
gobies et al
Do you have good water circulation? These shrimp are from high flow waters and need well oxygenated conditions to do well.
