macdre Posted August 23, 2011 Report Share Posted August 23, 2011 from what i understand the way to sex ornate bichirs is based on the anal fin, the males have a more POCKET like anal fin whatever that means and the females have a more fleshy tail area, can anyone confirm , or has anyone had any success with breeding them, i belive i have a large female but im unsure, and does anyone have a lrg to xxl male there willing to sell, Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

It is practically impossible on smaller ones as the difference in size is indistinguishable. Males have a much more noticeable anal fin as they get larger and the females stays smaller.
