wandj
Hello. I am planning out my future Jack tank. I don't want sand, as I heard about all the risks. I want to mimic thier natural habitat the best. What color do they like best? What size? Is there a specific name or common name? Thanks all. I was planning on using a fine, brown or very dark gravel.
johnsmith
Here are a couple of links to get you started, if you haven't already been there: Profile - doesn't tell you much, but it does have the scientific name. Another Profile - Scroll down a bit. Look around that site and you can find some good info on their biotope. Biotope - some of the biotope info I was referring to. Hope that helps. It should be a cool tank. I'm thinking of doing the same actually, if I can't find the CAs I really want :baby: .
RD.
If you want to get the deep rich colors out of your fish, my advice is to use somewhat darker substrate, as well as background. Fine to medium gravel should work well for JD's.
wandj
Thank you all so much for all the help. I just picked up 540 pounds of fine gravel. I bought it for 8 buck a bag at that sand place on the Northeast side of Edmonton. I found it thanks to the "sand" thread. The gravel is mostly tan/beige. They didn't have anything darker. I will compensate by using other dark decor. Now I wait for the tank to put it in!
