smmcgill
I have a 5 gallon non-planted tank with 3 little African Dwarf frogs. I'm currently using a small Cascade HOB (Cascade 20, I think) filter with a sponge pre-filter to keep little legs and feet safe. However, I'm getting a ton of particulate matter floating around in the tank, which obviously isn't getting past the sponge. Can anyone suggest a better method of protecting froggies from the intake, that will still allow some mechanical filtration to happen? ckmullin
Just use less sponge. Shave it off a bit so it's basically 'less thick'. Netting can work great as well. For shrimp in the past I've used one layer of pantyhose tight across a canister filter intake. Suggest to throw in some plant as that will help complete a life cycle in that tank. I have a dwarf frog in a tank full of flame moss and it just loves it.
smmcgill
What's the lighting requirement for flame moss? This tank has only the stock LED hood that came with the tank, and I don't have the option to change that right now.
ckmullin
Mosses are basic, pretty much any light will keep them. Stock LED for that tank should be just fine, If you wanted please give a link or picture to that fixture.
smmcgill
It's a Top Fin 5 gallon starter kit with LED hood... I can't find it online, oddly enough, but I bought it at Petsmart. How do I attach a pic?
ckmullin
Perhaps this is it. http://www.petsmart.com/WFS/PETUS/en_US/-/USD/-zid36-17600/cat-0-catid-0?utm_campaign=bazaarvoice&utm_medium=SearchVoice&utm_source=RatingsAndReviews&utm_content=Default There will be no issues growing moss. There are many ways to add a picture, here are some options. http://albertaaquatica.com/index.php?showtopic=35943 Basically this forum needs a url link with a picture extension. For example the default avatar for this forum has the picture link: http://i2.wp.com/AlbertaAquatica.com/public/style_images/master/profile/default_large.png When you have that the absolute easiest thing is to click on the 'picture' icon above the text box when your typing a response. 9th from the right or 11 from the left take your pic. (bad pun) Take that above picture link and click on the picture icon I just referred to and paste it there and now you'll have this:
smmcgill
Not quite: that one shows an incandescent hood, and mine's LED. I was reading through the photography/uploading pics threads just before you responded. I'm using my phone (desktop? do people still use those? Haha), and the mobile version of AA, so I don't think i have the icons you mentioned. I'll keep looking.
