TK421
SO im buying a tank. either 72 or 100gallons. Its goin on the main floor of my house.. against a wall. oustide wall to be exact. I know either tank is gonna weigh an assload when full.. so im thinking of reinforcing the floor joists. My thinking is that if i reinforce the floor joists i wont get any slanting of the floor or creaking or just generally playing it safe... Maybe im crazy but has anybody else thought of doin things like this. ?
Nandopsis
Yep i have a older house and was worried about that. Instead of bracing the floor with tele-posts, a alternative is just to nail the joists together with a 2 by 6 brace inbetween the joists. You probably won't have a problem if you don't brace anything, but it can't hurt.
TK421
yeah thats what i planned with the 2x 6's, no posts.. when you say nail them together do you mean like an "H" or perpendicular? i was just gonna nail them parallel to eatch other and just beef them up. Nandopsis
Perpendicular inbetween the joists. Make sure you tie them into joists that are not going to have the tank on them. Once you tie them together it will strenghten the floor quite abit. Hope that helps.
