JHG
Hi all, I am looking to outfit a 10G with mini compact lighting and have found the following lamps that may help but need some experienced feedback from you salties out there. I'd like to be able to support some "beginner" coral (whatever that is) in the 10G but want to ensure my lighting is in place first... obviously. Anyhow, here are the lamps I've uncovered -- fire away! Philips Marathon Universal (15w/20w/25w) Philips Marathon Table Lamp (34w) Philips Marathon Decorative Twister (15w/20w/23w) Coralife Mini Compact 50/50 Lamp (20 Watt) Coralife Mini Compact Colormax Lamp (20 Watt) The tank hood can accomodate two bulbs only. Thanks in advance for your help. J PS: Forgot to add that I'm a newbie to marine, don't tar and feather me yet. midgetwaiter
Check out a hydroponics shop, there is a brand called envirolite that works resonably well. I've used the Philips Marathon daylights over FW planted tanks and they work okay but seem to have a pretty significant spectrum change after 9 months. That could have been because they were fairly hot though, no airlow in the hood. HTH
JHG
I'm currently using the universal 25w bulb and a globe 9w bulb. I ordered the coralife and should have them installed by next Friday.
BlkWolfe
Two of the Coralife 50/50's My first tank was a 10g with two of those bulbs on top of it, ran for two years and supported mushrooms, zenia, and bubble coral. The 50/50's give that slight blue hue that many like on their reefs
Cap'n
Agree with BlkWolfe. I've tried a few of the PC's and had the most success with the Coralife's.
JHG
Have been using the two Coralife 50/50's for the past two months and have some softies in the tank. Red mushroom propagating on its own.
