  4. Hey everyone, my tanks have finally arrived after 6 months.... I ordered them from "iadempet.com"(aquarium designs unlimited) here in Edmonton.. We did take our time with the design and overflows and holes, etc..... For those who don't remember; tank # 1; 120in x 48 in x30inches high tank # 2; 120in x 42 in x30inches high I guess Santa was right on time.....LOL Now the work starts...I have to get them down 6 stairs(straight). It should not be to bad...I have 6 industrial suction cups.... the tanks will be carried sideways(30in) and the staircase is 48in wide.... Anyway the move will take place on the 27th or the 28th... The hard part is organizing the man power...... I think 10 people should be good and so far I have 7, maybe 8.... I am supplying pizza and beer and the people that are going to carry the tanks will be paid a small fee!!!!! the others can place 2 x 4s, open door, direct, etc.. the large tank is between 600 and 700 pounds, so about 110 pounds per person... the tanks are acrylic..... I will have a showing to those interested at a later date but for now if anyone is feeling strong then please p.m. me......Thanks Yes picks will come soon>>>>> To all a Merry Christmass!!!!!!!!! By the way I am in the west end about 3 miles from W.E.M. and we do need women to serve the beer, LOL I'm joking.. strong woman are very welcomed.....cheers......
  5. so what are they saying???? does it remove amonia with Edmonton hard water or not?????
  6. they are OUTSTANDING!!!!!!!!! how big do they get??? Aggressive?????
  7. I got 6 Haitiensis in a 120 gallon (4x2x2) The fish were anywhere from 1.5 - 2" when I got them, they bloated the biggest one was a little over 3" smallest one being a little over 2. Only other thing in the tank was 3 Honduran red points, and 2 clown loaches. No fighting at all, everyone ignored eachother, only fighting was within the Hait's Feeding them New Life Spectrum TherA pelets, and Spirulina twice a day. Temp was 86 consistantly, and I did between a 30-50% waterchange every 3 days. After doing what I did i thought theres no way that they will bloat up for me lol. Anyways, hope my experience helped and let me know how yours do when you get them I got 6 Haitiensis in a 120 gallon (4x2x2) The fish were anywhere from 1.5 - 2" when I got them, they bloated the biggest one was a little over 3" smallest one being a little over 2. I'm thinking of getting one just for a tank in crappy condition, and then it will probably live lol. Didn't you use Metronidazole on them when they started bloating up too? hey guys......I did some more research and found another thing to consider... have you ever eaten a pizza late at night and then gone to bed??????? ya, I know I have....how do you feel in the morning?????? anyway, word has it that late night feeding,,,,then the lights go out...... the fishes metabolisim slows down causing food to start rotting in their gut.. then the bad parasites come to life.....then the white feces.... I am just a messenger but what time of day do people feed their fish before the lights go out?????????????????? KEEP HUNTING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! could be nothing but we will leave no rock unturned!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!LOL...........
  8. no I have not.......tell me more about their personality.............
  9. the tank is 10ft x 4ft x 30inches high..........I know what you mean about high tanks!!!! I used to have a 6ft x 2ft x 3ft high tank and it was a real pain to clean or move rocks... I used to have a six foot ladder and still had to stick my entire shoulder into the tank... What a pain...... This tank is 30 inches high instead of 36 inches and that should make a big difference..... thanks
  10. You should not have a problem. It is VERY IMPORTANT not to use a stand with feet. You need a stand where the feet are actually horizontal on the floor and across as many joists as possible........Not the common 4 pointy feet type....
  11. hey Ryan, sad about your loss.... how many were in that tank? what size of tank? what size were the fish when you got them and when they got bloat? how many other species were in there? Was there alot of fighting between them or between other species? What type of food? How much per day? Any info. you could give me would be great!!! Maybe one day one of us can figure out this problem!!!!!!!!!!! thanks
  12. Yes the dreadfull BLOAT issue.......I am raising the heat to 82f or 84f while the fish are small, also a U.V. sterilizer, also many caves of different sizes, also many water changes & lastly I will keep a few in a small solo tank as spares...just in case... One thing I won't be able to do is a low protein diet due to the others in the tank but I will not feed them until their bellies burst either!!!!!
  13. You might be right but in a tank this big anything is possible......also they will grow up together & a Festae is no wimp!!!!!!
  14. The tanks are acrylic and are made in Los Vegas(I think)... You can order them though a branch of theirs called "Living Color"... here in Edmonton....... How do we move it????? Good question!!!!! Six guys & six industrial suction cups..... and HOPE everything goes well!!!!!! I have pic's of this project from the begining and will post all once the tanks are in place.. (Very Soon!!!!).............thanks
  15. That's an interesting idea but I have never grown a Festae to full potential so this is my big chance........Also, Festae will add more color to the set up.. thanks
  16. My tanks are arriving this month(finally). In my 750 gal tank I want three large breeding pairs that I will raise from juvies.. I have taken into consideration; Color, Size, Aggression, etc.... What do you think??? I know I may still need dividers in the future....
  17. Soooooooooo, I know all about the bloat problems.. When I get mine I was going to put the majority in the large tank(750gal)(all young cichlids of different species) and a few in some isolation tanks, also I will keep the heat up, say 80 to 82, water changes!!, and a U.V. sterilizer, also not over feed.......any other suggestions?????? Until 4in then I hope I'm out in the clear.........
  18. Thanks everyone.....I thought about 15 or 16inches but now I am sure........
  19. Hi there... Does anyone know what the max. size these fish grow to??? Thanks
  20. Hey Quinn, I P.M. you at MFK and I'm not sure how to P.M. on this site.. I live in the west end in Edmonton...if you want to see the tanks when they arrive let me know..I would appreciate other opinions on the rest of the set up.... Could always use another person to help carry the tanks into the house....LOL....
  21. Excellent looking!!!!!! I'm not a big hybrid fan but those are two of my favorite fish..... What is his temperment lke!!!!!!
  22. Thanks guys..... I'm excited about them but a little worried too....they are big.... My original plan was to try and bred red aro's but that is a big investment due to the price of aro's and how many I would need, also breeding them is very difficult in captivity...... I have always been a big cichlid fan, so for now I will start with that... My list; FESTAE, ODO, UMBIE, MIDAS, LABIATUS, BI-FACIATUS, RED MOTO, CARPINTE, CUBAN, AND GREEN TERRORS.....(These fish will be split up between both tanks). I will have Synspilum, Chocolates and Blue Dempseys in another tank. A 240 gallon that I will purchase next year. I'm sure there will be issues with them breeding, but as you can see I won't be overstocking the tanks and dividers might be needed in the future...I hope not thou..... I will keep you posted.. Also I was thinking of getting most of my fish from Jeff Rappes (Tangled up in cichlids)........ Later....
  23. Hi everyone.... I was planning to get one or two large tanks about two years ago and I finally ordered them from "Tenecor" aquariums... I had to finish the basement first to fit these tanks....that's done.. The tanks are acrylic and will be here in 6 to 8 weeks...I'll post pic"s then!!! The footprints are: Tank#1: 120inches x 48inches x 30inches high......700gal US (I think) Tank#2: 120inches x 42inches x 30inches high......600gal US (I think) I will be housing large cichlids for now.... I am having a lot of holes drilled in them for two types of filtration systems and automatic water changes........ Now the fun part should start, plumbing and electrical... I'll keep you posted.......
