  1. Do you mean PJ's or Petsmart? There is no petland on calgary trail. hahaha, caught me being a Dolt :bang1: >>> anyways, PJ's Pets, at their new location.... Canadian Tire/Lamelle's etc.. They are second row, end top tank, they had a few there 4 weeks ago, was thinking of purchasing some myself but no room!! They are owned by the same conglomerate anyway, I think. My wife has had me on the lookout for a nice betta or something for her to take care of. Were the Paradise fish albinos? Blacks? Regular? Did they have females as well as males?
  2. In 2007, although Sturgeon fishing is legal by law, there were zero sturgeon tags given out as the population has an enormously slow doubling rate and needs to recover from several years of over fishing.

  4. Awesome. I'm glad it's settling in nicely then. I was starting to worry that I may have to dry 65gal of water out of the carpet.
  5. Ok. I bought a Botia striata from Natures about 3 weeks ago to help with snail control. For about the last week, after I turn out the light, I've been hearing clicking noises from the tank. At first I was concerned that perhaps the bottom panel of glass had cracked, but there is no water leakage. Could this possibly be the loach clicking? Is this a signal that it has settled into the tank? I've had clowns before, but never really heard any clicking. Then again, when I had the clowns, I was less experienced and kept 5 in a 29gal tank and perhaps they never settled into the tank. Any opinions on the mystery noises from the tank?
  6. Regardless of origin, are fishes & supplies traded in US$? Although not a vendor of fish and supplies, I would believe so as most other consumer goods are purchased in USD around the world. Unfortunately, canadian importers and retailers have to pay a fair amount more in tariffs and tax's when importing goods to Canada. (as reported by Peter Mansbridge on The National last night)
  7. I haven't seen it yet. In any retail setting let alone a fish store. The company I work for hasn't lowered our prices either. We aren't your standard retailler, but our prices aren't coming down anytime soon. Unfortunately, IMO, the trickle effect as far as the new purchasing power of the CAD hasn't reached the average consumer yet. Probably won't until the new year at the earliest.

    SNAILS!

I am just getting over the same issue. Grab some Botia sp loach's and throw them in the tank. For some reason, the Botia loaches absolutly love to feast on snails. Kuhlis and weather loaches are not the way to go. I got a Zebra loach, Botia striata from Nature's and it is doing the trick. For a 90 put in 3. Provided you don't have africans or large predatory fish in the tank. Henry at natures had mentioned that there was a some sort of chemical additive you could put in as well, but I was kinda wary about doing that. Clown loaches and Yo-yo's are good too, although the clowns grow quite large (I've seen one about a foot long) and need to be housed accordingly Zebra Loach http://www.loaches.com/species-index/botia-striata Yo-Yo Loach http://www.loaches.com/species-index/botia-almorhae Clown Loach http://www.loaches.com/species-index/clown...ia-macracanthus Hope this helps!

    SW lighting

What is the difference between different types of flourescent lights? T8, T6, T5, Standard, Compact? Are there advantages and disadvantages to each? The reason I am asking is that I have a 29gal with an eclipse hood that I am converting from fw to sw. The light system in the hood is dual T8's. Will this be sufficient for a FOWLR tank or even a reef tank? Where can I pick up bulbs for a T8 system? Are there different types and spectrums that may be better suited for a marine tank? Any help you can give would be great. Thanks!!
  12. option #4 Nano reef tank w/ shrimp and maybe Ocellaris clown
  13. Pretty amazing http://www.reefkeeping.com/issues/2007-09/totm/index.php
  14. Celestial Danios? Close to zebras, but a lot more colourful.
  15. The last couple of times I was in BA's here in edmonton, they were available.
  16. I've got 3 S. lucipinnis in there right now, and they are a blast to watch. Very active. In keeping with the Malawi theme, would S. nyassa work any better? Haven't found much info on them, but I do know they are indiginous to Malawi, where the Lucipinnis are Tangy's.
  17. Ok, would Saulosi work intstead of the demasoni? Same colour pattern in males. Females are yellow instead of blue though.
  18. How does this sound? Pseudotropheus demasoni Labidochromis hongi Metriaclima greshakei and maybe one or two more species? Was also thinking of using S. multipunctatus as a catfish to offset everything a little. Suggestions?
  19. Hi everyone. I'm thinking of some new ideas for my 65gal. Dimensions are 36L x 18W x 24H. I was thinking about going with a malawi tank, but can't decide what group of fish to use? I don't have any experience with either. I've checked out some websites, and can't decide. What are some suggestions out there? The tank is quite deep, not sure which type of cichlid that would be more advantageous for. Do I have enough swimming room to house a bunch of Peacocks? I was reading that for the most part they can't be mixed either. What have you experienced African keepers discovered? Are there combos that work? Anything else that I may have missed? Any help would be great. Thanks!!!
  20. Sort of new. Big Al's was in Calgary before, and closed shop overnight a few years back. No notice or anything as far as I know.
  21. That is crazy!!!!! I can't believe the fish were surviving. Good on you for rescuing some of them from that deathtrap!!!!
  22. They are pretty fat, but not a lot of babies coming out yet.
  23. Got some bad news. She didn't make it. I will miss her. RIP pinky.
  24. Well it's been about two hours and I've noticed 2 free swimming fry in the tank. it still looks like one is stuck. I guess I will try and give her a gentle squeeze to see if that helps.
