  1. No. almost all plecos have an associated L# with them. the L stands for Loricaride. That is the branch of the catfish family that they all belong too. For example, Gold Nuggets have 4 associated L-numbers with them. L018, L081, and L177. L018 is the large spot variety, L081 the small spot, and L177 is the medium spot variety. 2. Do you know what the L number of it is? I bought one recently too from natures and think mine is an L177.
  3. nice looking fish john. Unfortunately I've never seen it before.
  4. RIP. Nice rhymes though...
  5. I was just wondering if there was a way to access the site from my cell's web browser? If not, is it a possibilityto be done? I know that there has been a few times I was in a certain LFS on 99st, not mentioning any names, and I wished I could look up some info from this site. (I don't always trust what they're tell me at the store)

    CO2 reactors.

Just thought I would ask what does everyone think of the different kinds of CO2 units. Fermentation or Compressed Gas? Manual or Auto? Are different brands more prone to be faulty? What does everyone use in their planted tanks? I want to put one into a tank that will be planted and be home to some discus. The tank is 36" x 18", and 24" high. Any advice? What amount of CO2 would be good for nice growth? 30ppm? More? Less?
  7. I kinda want to have a fully planted tank. I've even been looking into CO2 systems. I understand that they release CO2 into the tank at certain rates. Is this to supplement photosysnthesis at night? Or for deeper tanks? Which ones are better, units that use fermentation or units that use compressed gas?
  8. Is there a rule of thumb as far as setting up the plants go?? What about water conditions? Does the pH of the water determine which plants will be successful in the tank?
  9. If you do, you may need a little bit more support for your humungous tank.
  10. Any word on how high and for how long? When I'm going to be cooking, I'd like to have a recipe.
  11. Does the urea effect the bacterial colonies at all? If the tank is just starting to cycle, half cycled, fully cycled? Is it one spike per plant or does one cover an area?
  12. I guess that I am going on the assuption that they know what they are doing and put the proper wood in the bin instead of just dumping anything in to fill it up.
  13. Is there a reason that the spike has to be added after the plant has been in the tank for a week?
  14. ok. maybe I'll try cukes next. If not I'll just stick with the NLS.
  15. Yes, I'm certain. It was out of a bin labelled Malayan Bogwood, and all the peices in said bin were the same colour and texture as the one I purchased.
  16. Where do I get that jobe's spikes? A gardening center? LFS?
  17. Well, it's been almost a week and I haven't seen him eat yet. I've put the zuchinni in a couple of times, and didn't see any noticable munching when I took it out. I have been putting in an NLS wafer everynight at lights out and those are gone when I check in the morning. No guarantee that its him eatng though. Where do I go from here? Do I just assume that everything is status quo and leave it at that, or keep trying until I have undeniable proff that he's getting some food? I'm starting to get worried that he's going to be belly up one of these mornings.
  18. I recently purchased a piece of malaysian drift wood from Big Al's on Monday. As per their instruction while at the till, I am currently soaking the wood in a 10gal pail of hot water to try and remove any tanins and or spores. Now, I was also told that as the wood soaks, it will become waterlogged again and lose its bouyancy in the water and sink. Is this true? If not, is there another process I have to do in order to make it stay down. It's a gorgeous piece of wood and I really wood -roll- like to put it on the bottom of my tank as the new home for my nugget. Any suggestions???
  19. Cool. As much as it pains me to say it, the wife and I discussed it, and it will be gravel going into the tank. Do I have to lay something underneath in order to have plants? Or will they take root and grow in the gravel?
  20. Anyone know where I can get some sand in edmonton. I heard that something called SL8 is good, but don't know where to get it? Would home depot play sand work? Other options? It's for a 65gal tank, 36x18 footprint.
