  1. Well it's official my tank of "the unwanted and unsellable" is up and running, with 4 inhabitants in 2 days. 4 cichlids 1 Hap lookin guy? - not sure (his head more resembles a hippo than a cichlid) see pic below.his bottom jaw is off 1/8 of an inch to the right. 1 female Red Empress - head looks like it was crushed as fry then just grew all wrong! 1 Ob red zebra - looks like broken back at young age(tail never grew-very tiny) can't swim with its tail but can really motor with it's pectoral fins. 1 Peacock(electric blue??? ) lookin guy - very little so hard for me to tell, similar warped head to guy in pic but not nearly as bad(he more looks like he's drunk) all fish seem to be doing really well, eating well, no fights. The love the space of their new 45 gal. THANKS TED!(see pic) I can't believe how many I've found in the city....so fast, two stores 4 fish. One store was really cool about it, and just gave me the fish. The other store made my pay....not much though just 1.99 each. Anyway I couldn't be happer with how fast this came together! I just hope I don't find too many more, I'll need more tanks! If anyone spots any more please message me, I'll see if I can give them a home too.
  2. Hi everyone, Time to move my baby canister to the small tank. I have a 90 gal with 2 ac 300's on it, and I'm wondering what would be the best canister to add. I have a tiger O, a small female Green terror, & a 4" red shoulder peacock( I know I shouldn't In theory mix s/a and africans, but they really get on well, and have all been born and raised on the same city tap water so?) anyway I'm looking at: cascade 1200 Rena xp3 fluval 305 (but i hear they are crappy) Jebo odyssea csf4 (also some faults I think) Ehiem ecco 2236 eheim 2215 (a little more than I want to spend) and what about the Hydor 20 (never heard of it til today) any opinions and horror stories will be appreciated.(especially tales of leakage because I live in a condo) Sad Thanks
  3. It's probably too late but Pisces has flounder in stock now!
  4. nice littla ram you got there! What size Tank are they in?
  5. I use an Olympus D-540 you can see a couple of pis in my profile, better for close ups than far away!
  6. I recently bought the mini rapids nano canister for my 20 gal. Best $35.00 fish related bucks I ever spent. -roll- However it never made it onto my 20....out of boredom one night I modified the hanger & hose attachments, and stuffed it on my 90 gallon Oscar tank(just for kicks). I removed the charcoal and spongey pad(all in one) thingy, rplaced that with twoaqua clear 20 sponges, pulled out half the ceramic tubes and replaced them with Penn Plax bio max type pellets(ripped open the mesh bag), alternating handfuls as I put them in, Then fired it up. Well sort of, I kinda had to suck start it the first time. :boxed: but after that it reprimes well. This little filter actually traps more solid waste than my 2 aqua clear 300's put together. Theres not a whole lot of flow but as a backup filter for solids it's the cats a$$! here's a link. Thanks Again Colby! http://www.oscarent.com/ It's called the rapids mini canister
  7. hey I think I just found it online: Aulonocara hansbaenschi http://pets.webshots.com/photo/1100714578050696376XmTySN
  8. today I was @ pisces pets.....just browsing! anyway, one small impulse buy later, I came home with this 4" male peacock. Can anyone tell me the specific breed? These pics suck he faded out due to being the new guy in town. He isusually dark maroon body, with a dark rusty red patch behind his gills, and of course blue head! All seems to be going well, my Oscar doesn't seem to even care that he exists other than the initial inspection he gave. And my female Green terror is the same size as the peacock so she seem happy to have similar sized company! By the way in the first pic the lil Green Terror was spying from the bushes! :ph43r:
  9. omg  What an amazing looking Front.
  10. hey I just finished clearing up a batch of ich, by raising the temp to 86deg. and added salt for two weeks. During this time my oscar only showed one spot, but my green terror had quite a few. she has since cleared up. But since the first spots showed up she's stopped eating! all spots are gone for 5 days now and I'm lowering the temp. however she has tried eating a little but when she pooped it was white and stringy,(it hung out for hours at a time). Today there was a very long red poo floating when i got home. it looked like an organ(like intestines) it was translucent red with what looked like a whitish core, and was about 1.5 inches long. Other than not really eating she is acting fine. maybe not quite as active though. water ammo 0 Nitrite 0 Nitrate 80 temp 84 slowly on its way back to 78 ph 8.0 I know the nitrates are high, during the temp treatment my live plant died.so I'm doing water changes every other day to get it back. Is this an internal parasite? What are possible treatments? Melafix or pimafix? Can I avoid treating my whole tank? or should I to Make sure My O is OK? Thanks everybody in advance! Oh and by the way my tank is a 90 with 2 hob and a small canister.
  11. No kidding...a good 4"-6" and 6"-8" to go respectively....definitely add a canister and try to keep your water-changes at every 5-7 days at most. Will do!
  12. Thanks, The big baby loves the camera now...any attention is good attention to him! -roll- I really liked the salvini, but he was a jerk, always attacking my lil terror(i'm a suker for this little fish) so he had to go before he got brave enough to mess with Pepto!
  13. Thanks fishdude My Green Terror has been in with him for 5 months...she was only 1.75 inches when I put her in. However I was lucky when I did mine, The oscar had just been moved from his smaller tank, so he had no teritory established yet in the 90 gal. That being said, my Oscar did beat a male Green terror of the same size to death!(he didn't eat him just killed him) But when I added the same size female 2 days later he took right to her, Thats his little chick, and now she's 4" long. When the lay on the bottom at night he'll even let her lay down against his side. Petland deerfoot has some nice 5-6" males if you are interested, and riverfront has the best looking 6-7" male I've seen in a long time. I think the male/female thing all depends on what sex your Oscar is! The other option is : when i added my 2 - 2" pictus cats(who should have been food by now) I added some small fish from my 20gal to distract him. It worked well,it gave them a chance to find cover, he ate the 5 small fish in 20 min, but now leaves the cats alone.......well........as much as an oscar will leave otherfish alone. :smokey: He chases them but moslty its just to be a jack a$$!
  14. Niiiiiiiiiice! :smokey: Mylanta might work..... I was originally thinking Metamucil...but that doesn't really roll off the tounge. anybody else have any suggestions
  15. Hey all I have a 4 inch female terror, who has proven to be the only fish my 10 inch Oscar tolerates! He evicted a salvini, a convict, & a male Green Terror. :boxer: She has become his little chick, anyway now that he says she's allowed to stay, she should get a name! My big guy's name is Pepto, and if you've ever seen an Oscar eat you know why. :P So anyway she is slightly stunned like Dory from finding nemo, a little skittish, and sometimes when she's cranky she'll even give Pepto the "Gills"(flares herself out when she doesn't feel like moving). Here are some pics...... help me please i'm at a loss! :well:
  16. That lil Juli looks great :smokey:
  17. I am increasing filtering no matter what! My oscar is only 17 months old and my terror is only 6 months old...so they both have some growing to do yet. The problem is I had a nice sail fin pleco 8". it got so hungry and agressive that I had to feed him separately, because he was sucking the slime coat off my Oscar. and no longer ate algae. My new one is on his way to doing the same thing it already chases my Green Terror. So I think I'll leave it up to the pictus cats and a new/used canister to clean my tank.
  18. ha ha ha ...not by my own choice. When I get home from work he is so excited to see me he jumps out of the water at me when I open the lids, & at 10" my finger will just fit into his mouth nicely. :boxed: But he does come to visit my hand when I clean his tank. He's a good fishie, he just doesn't like stangers! :grr: lol
  19. thanks, I'm feeding them Hikari cichlid gold pellets Veggie sticks-sinking kind Frozen freshwater multi pack(bloodworm , spirulina, etc..) Spirulina sticks-floating kind Cucumber & zuchinni But never never never feeder fish  My big boy is so spoiled
