  1. Most Aquarium stores are carrying them now. I think Peices has some but unsure of the sizes. B
  2. I visited Princess Auto yesterday and found a whole bunch of 22" T5 light fixtures with bulbs, they are linkable and the bulbs are likely not in the spectrum we use but the price was nice $11.99 per fixture which comes with a bulb cover and linking cord. The bulbs could be replaced quickly and a DYI reflector could be made up easily. Just thought I would let you all know. I think the name is profile and they are located in the surplus area. They also had a small selection of 11" ones too. Cheers
  3. Thanks for your comments guys.... With the new house comes new space in the basement for a possible fish room or most certainly a built in tank/wetbar ... hopefully by next Xmas it will be underway... Cheers!
  4. The pictures attached are of my 40 Gallon Reef aquarium, the only one that made the move to Airdrie with me. I used to keep 4 tanks with Dicus, cichlids, and angels but shut everything down last fall and only kept this tank running. I recently purchased 17 lbs of live rock and misc zoo's and mushrooms from GR8Blade which has allowed the tank to really come into it's own, and allowed me to remove all the Tuffa stone I was using as base rock. Since that change the Algae is not growing anymore and my cleanup crew is making good progress on removal. Bernie  Hope you enjoy it I know I certainly do There is a SCWD ( Switching Current Water Director) attached to a Aquaclear 402 power head hidden behind the rock work which gives the tank a great flow pattern gently rocking the corals back and forth. Full tank Shot You'll may notice the top and bottom of the tank are surrounded by rope. This rope was used by my late father to tie up his boat for a number of years and I thought it would be fitting to include it, plus it helps keep with the nautical theme of the room that this tank is in. Both the tank and stand are custom built by yours truely. Unsure what this is I haven't had time to look into ID since I got it from Wendy a couple of weeks ago Xenia There is a large clump of Hawaiian Codium edule limu wawae'iole growing in the bottom left/center of this photo. It is a macro Algae that showed up after I put some rocks I gathered on a Maui reef and Smuggled into the country into the tank. BTA Emerald Crab
  5. I just got mine from the US a couple of days ago and was wondering if anyone has any experience with them they can pass along. My plan is to start with a Aquaclear 402 PH and plumb in two outlets internally in my 45 gal reef tank. According to the manufacturer's web site this should allow for 75% pump effciency and a change in water direction every 10 seconds. I've seen different setups online but nothing a simple has I am thinking of doing. B
  6. It should be attached to the filter input not the output, i've used them in the past they seem to work well. Cheers...
  7. Salinity is measured with a Hagen Hydrometer and reads right at the recommended level 1.024. PH is 8.2, Total hardness is 33 ppm. Temp 78-79 This should be good right?
  8. Can anyone tell me how much light green star polyps need? When I had them in my first marine aquarium which was short on light they grew very well. They have been in my 50 gal marine tank for 6 months now and never seem to open up at all, except for a few small ones sticking out they look to be wasting. All my water parameters are good, regular water changes lots of circulation, my hammer head coral is even growing well. My new tank has 2 96w PC actintics, 2-22 w T5 actintics and 2-22 w T5 6500 K bulbs so lighting is great comparied to my old set up. I have placed some of the polyps each area low middle and high to see if there is an area they like best but the only ones that seem to open up much at all are the one at the lower level with lower light. I am fighting a hair algae bloom which is almost under control but I wonder if this stuff is causing the issue, does it release toxins or something? Anyone ever have this problem? Thanks, bd
  9. If only my boss would allow me...
  10. PM Sent on the Yellow Tail Aceis. Thanks, Bernie
  11. Hi all, I managed to get these guys to kinda sit still.... tonight. So I and managed to get some decent pictures of my 55 gal discus tank for the first time in a while. I guess putting fresh batteries in an older digital camera can help... Any way these pictures are of one 2.5" Red Turquoise discus and four 2" Santareems which I got from a Member on this board. Thanks "Spidey Steve" This tank as been up and running for about 12 months with either Angel fish or discus in different combinations. I'm not one to write on, and on but if you have a question please feel free to post a note. I will try to respond when I am back in town. B  3 posts below
