  1. I figured time would be the ticket, just wanted to be sure you weren't doing anything drastically different from me that might help. Thanks again, Taylor
  2. The only other fish are my Black Kuhli Loaches (very small, eel-like) which I am still trying to get out of the tank. I definitely knew they were bottom dwellers that I could expect to hang around the bottom, but mine aren't coming out into the lighted areas at all. They just stay hidden in the rockwork
  3. Thanks. I agree with both of you. They are a great fish with lost of personality. I don't know why the heck I waited so long to try cichlids! Soliver- are your fish swimming around out in the open? I think mine are just settling in still, but if not, maybe my water balance is off a little. Or maybe my lighting is too strong, what's yours like? How many watts per gallon? Thanks, Taylor
  4. Thanks! Probably won't be much to update with in a while, the fish are all in hiding right now while they get used to the surroundings. Actually, I do have some news right now. I'll have to scratch off the Atya gabonensis, I don't know where the heck I got the idea that these exist in the Congo River. Must have been a thought carried on from another African river rapids biotope plan :eh: So I guess the tank be just cichlids unless I can find a source that says anything about barbs or schooling catfish in the lower Congo River.
  5. That second clip is great! I suppose there is very little to no chance of these fish escaping into nearby waters. So I might as well accept it for an interesting change. But I would much prefer it if it were still populated solely by the subspecies of the Longnose Dace and the endemic snails.
  6. Good for you buddy, good to see one of us with one of the bigger tanks set up finally.
  7. Nope, fishbase says that species is not valid- it is now part of P. scalare. By extension that means there's only one species left in the genus to guess.
  8. Very nice setup. Are those all real plants?
  9. I can't wait to see it with tanks on it either! That may have to wait until mid summer though as I might be moving to Okotoks. Thanks again for building Ryan. Your craftsmanship is unmatched by any mass-produced stands available at the LFS's
  10. Just keeping up with the updates. Pics of the fish:
  11. Nope but close, that's 1/3 choices in the genus down.
  12. This one had better be more easily guessed lol...
  13. Holy crap, those might be the best big aro pics I've ever seen!! Thanks for sharing these.
  14. :welcome: to the forum
  15. Good to know, thanks for the tips Valerie. I think I might try it again tonight.
  16. Nice fish, that would be my pick if I was to get an Oscar
  17. That may be, and it's probably for the best because we don't want them escaping into nearby waters and decimating the local trout populations as well. I think the damage has been done as far as the Cave and Basin marshes are concerned, the subspecies of Longnose Dace is extinct and those exotics can't get past the border of the springs heated water. I have to admit, it'll be interesting to see these fish and I eagerly await the video. Not to mention it's a good study on the effects of introduced species (not that we didn't have an abundance of such cases before this). I guess this place will stay as a tourist attraction, funny to see how the gov't has capitalized on it with that sign too!
  18. Yep I was, we got there about the same time as Harold. You must have arrived after we were gone.
  19. Thanks to Harold (fairdeal) I now have 5 awesome new fish. It's about time for something new to photograph too, and boy are these fish photogenic!! Here are my pics, I'll post a couple up in my journal too since that will still be there when this thread gets pushed to the next page. This is a wicked fish!! I hope you enjoy, Taylor
  20. I love those Matumbi's! Nice videos Patrick, it gives us a better look at the way the fish are than just pics- really makes me want to get mine! Can you get any video of the Red Fin Piebalds? I'd love to see some footage of them.
  21. Interesting fish. I'm sure they do not come cheap, but are cool all the same!
  22. Looking good! Glad to hear the levels are stable again, are you still using that wood? I think it'd look nice covered with moss and you can plant around it :hey:
