  1. Man that makes me mad, we should be extirpating those nasty aliens!!!!
  2. Did they seriously introduce Smallmouth Bass, and Grass Carp?!?!?!?! I can kind of handle and understand the introduction of Trouts, but those two s[ecies aren't from anywhere near here!!!!!
  3. Wow, that is to say I'm not entirely shocked, but this does eem a little strange. Are you sure they were non native fish as opposed to fish species that are dying out here, but brought here from other provinces to replenish the population? That would certainly make more sense than introducing non native fish like the Common Goldfish for example.
  4. That's a fair argument for sure, but I suppose the Gov't can't just go around handing out permits to anyone, I mean they could break the law and start taking endangered species into their homes for their personal enjoyment. But then, anyone could do this, so the thought works in favour of both sides of the argument. No matter how much we debate it, I seriously doubt we can change "the rules" and if we break them, then we risk a certain fine I think I remember hearing about earlier. Buhumbug!
  5. So you've actually gotten the permit? You too JORG? How?
  6. Aw man, I just tossed the idea of getting anoles, and now you had to post these pics?!?!?!!? Now I want! LOL thx for the pics, gorgeous animals.
  7. I would really love to keep burbot in an aquarium, however, as mentioned before they require a chiller, and can get quite large and I just don't have the accomodations fr that size, nor do i have the money. Also, I have heard from my cousin, who works at the Provincial Museum, that the museum has not been able to keep burbot alive in their aquarium, they haven't been able to keep spottail shiners either. I think I remember hearing that they couldn't keep the yellow perch alive either. Too bad.
  8. Good idea until it floods into a major river or lake, even through a small waterway, the alien fish in your pond can become a real hazard when given a chance to travel into a natural waterway. And you call yourself an albertan -05- JK JK LOL The perch would also need a pretty monster aquarium, if kept in a school (they will thrive) they will require quite alot of space, also it is quite hard to keep perch alive in an aquarium.
  9. Oh yes, I'm indefinitely in favour, but I am sadened to hear that they are hard to come by. Areas in banff have been populated by some idiots african jewel fish, because of that handicap the banff subspecies of [i think] longnose dace is extinct. What a face head!!!
  10. Grrrrr, well, anyone know how much it might be? Any feelings to be expressed on the idea?
  11. Do I need a special permit to keep native fish such as shiners and Trout-perch in my tank? What are your feelings about the idea? I am seriously thinking about it (if legal), it would be the Nature tank, scratch the nature tank stocking idea of course. For stocking I was thinking (30 Gal): 6 Emerald Shiners 4 Spottail Shiners 2 Trout-Perch Maybe some daces if I can get them All the fish would be harvested from Pigeon Lake, I have a cabin there
  12. I love your enthusiasm! I think that I can truly say that that is the best reply I've ever gotten, I will stick to the Bettas and I had a BN pleco on the list for the biotope- but somehow it got lost... Thanks! Everyone!
  13. A few minor changes, might be too much? Dunno, please give your thoughts Commune (Nature Tank- 30 Gal): 2 (pair) Bolivian Rams 3 Otocinclus 5 Takashi Amano Shrimp 8 Neon Tetras 5 Glass Cats 1 Siamese Algae Eater 1 Weather Loach 3 Betta Splendens (1 male, 2 females) or African Butterfly Fish Sis’s Tank (10Gal): 1 Male Dwarf Gourami 4 Black Neon Tetras 3 Takashi Amano Shrimp Amazonian Whitewater Biotope (29 Gal): 2 Silver Dollars 6 Marthae Silver Hatchet 5 Bronze Corydoras 3 Albino Corydoras 10 Gallon Puffer Tank: 3 Malabar Puffers 4 Takashi Amano Shrimps
  14. Oh yes I will give the puffer tank shrimp plenty of hiding space and if they get eaten by the puffers, no big deal! Thanks for the advice though! With regards to the nature tank, I'm thinking of maybe replacing the shrimps with a SAE. Any objections? I do know they get quite large. :guns: -ham-
  15. Thanks for the advice guys! The "Commune/Nature" tank will obviously be a community nature (planted) tank, so yes that one will indeed be planted. I don't know what to do about the loach... would the shrimps benefit me so much that I shouldn't drop them from my list? I really don't want to see that little character go! The Silver Dollar tank (or biotope) will not include any plants fake or live simply because I know the Silver Dollars will be happy to rid me of them. Tanks again guys! :guns: -ham-
  16. Is that dwarf loach? I don't know the scientific names too well, if so yes I was thinking that would be a possibility. Maybe I will keep my weather loach and get a dwarf? Or should i just drop the dwarf loach? So, besides that everything is ok? Including all of the other tanks of course Thanks for the advice! It's still way off in the horizon, tank set up I mean, so I will be revising until that time. I have the tank for the nature tank and the biotope, I have the stand for the nature tank, and now I am looking around for money for a pair of Aquaclear 70s! Should be good! Thanks again!!! :guns: -ham-
  17. "The lists": Commune (Nature Tank- 30 Gal): 3 Otocinclus 5 Takashi Amano Shrimp 8 Neon Tetras 5 Glass Cats 1 Weather Loach 2 Pakistani Loaches 3 Dwarf Gourami (1 male, 2 females) Sis’s Tank (10Gal): 1 Male Dwarf Gourami 4 Black Neon Tetras 2 Takashi Amano Shrimp Amazonian Whitewater Biotope (29 Gal): 2 Silver Dollars 6 Marbled Hatchets 4 Bronze Corydoras 2 Albino Corydoras 10 Gallon Puffer Tank: 3 Malabar Puffers 2 Takashi Amano Shrimps Please post if you see any incompatabilities, go easy on me :P There is one matter that I'm sure many of you will be concerned about- the silver dollars, I already have them in a 29 Gal, and are doing fine, so please don't post about them :guns: -ham-

    Hello

LOL all my questions have been covered here. :welcome: :guns: -ham-
  19. I dunno man, I can barely keep my 2 silver dollars in my 29 Gal, and your talking Discus? They get to be around 20 cm (thats 5 cm more than my Silvers) plus you only have 1 gallon more than me in your tank. Be careful man! :guns: -ham-
  20. Yes we were anticipating dropping the Hillstreams from the list, I suggested a weather loach but he said "They are too common" thatnks for the help guys! :guns: -ham-
  21. Thanks osprey, I have already read that thread, but enjoyed reading it again! I'd like to thank you for all the advice you gave me on that forum, I am a member of 4 different Fish forums now!
  22. Lol, sorry about the misunderstanding then, I do often find it hard to understand fully what people's emotions are when they post. Sorry :smokey: :guns: -ham-
  23. I don't mind you giving him suggestions, but keep the hostility at a low ok? Reading crap like that ruins my day, and I'm a freaking Granola! (Not you skinless  I praise you for lightening up the replies a bit)
