  1. I second that!!
  2. I don't know alot about this, but I had read that snails do use minerals for their shells, so I guess it could be possible.

    Hello

Welcome on board! I swear tanks must breed like snails..... -roll- they sure do at my house anyway, lol
  4. I have been looking on the net for accurate info on how to raise ghost shrimp, but I keep getting conflicting information. Some say brackish others say fresh? I have no idea what species mine are. They all look the same to me. I am tempted to put some in brackish some in fresh and see what happens. What do you think? Anyone here raised up some baby ghosties?
  5. Pic 4 and 5 from the top, very pretty pleco, looks enough like a zeb for me to want one, lol Maybe it is just the lighting or angle in the pic making it look like a zeb
  6. Ooh another salty! Welcome on board!
  7. I usually change out bio-media when it looks pretty dirty even when rinsed--the pores can clog up on the ceramic rings and on sponges. Granted you could probably boil the ceramic rings or something, but I just didn't like them so got rid of mine a long time ago. The bio-balls are nice as they have no "pores" to clog, and are easy to rinse out. (speaking only for FW use) The floss I change out "almost" every time I get into the filter (Usually once a month depending on what it looks like, more with the smaller tanks--theirs is rinsed every 1-2 weeks, but can vary due to how busy or lazy I am, lol). I don't think it is an issue of "old bacteria", just an issue of the media getting clogged up with crud and degrading, which can foul your tank. With sponges they start to rot, sometimes becoming rather inflexible over time and can trap quite a bit of crud. I am sure other people on here have different experiences than I do.
  8. Very nice plecos. Especially like the zebra, where'd you find it?
  9. :w00t:  wow! Absolutely gorgeous!! My favs are the first and the third.
  10. I was worried it would be too much for an 8g tank.....thing is I really like the little guy...uh...pincushion....whatever :P *sigh* well seeing as I already posted him fs and got a reply I can't back out now.
  11. Just got my two new blue damsels One is camera shy, but this guy seems to enjoy hiding under the urchin. Maybe I should keep the urchin after all...... :P Wonder if could get away with it.... :shifty:
  12. unhatched eggs can you spot the fry?
  13. I would put everything in buckets with lids, personally. (course my gramma has a death wish and jumps out of everything with no lid--yours may be slightly less insane, lol) If the live rock is covered with water you "should" have less die off. The fish, just put them in a bag or bucket with lots of air, and no rocks or anything that could fall on them. They would probably be fine in the tank, but you'd still have to move them out when you put all your rock and whatnot back in and this will mess any water that is in there quite a bit. It also couldn't hurt to stick on a hob filter for the first night or two with filter floss, because there may be a lot of detritus floating around off the LR. You're probably on top of this one: Have a bucket at home with pre-prepared sw mixed (with powerhead and heater) so you will be able to do a quick water change if you notice any spikes in your levels. This can also be a good place to stick fish temporarily if you are waiting for the tank to clear. Just don't forget to acclimate them first. Good luck on the move!!
  14. Beautiful fish and great pics!!

Welcome to the forums! You have some very pretty fish on your list
  16. Welcome to the forum Currently we keep cichlids, goldfish, a large community tank, a couple nano salt water tanks, cherry shrimp, and a pair of killies.
  17. I want to try feeding NLS to my killie fry. What type should I feed (for some reason they don't sell growth formula in red deer ) and how can I make it small enough for them to eat it? I have tried using the smallest pelleted verion, but I am unhappy with the size I was able to achieve by mushing it into powder with a knife blade. Just does not seem small enough. Ideas anyone?
  18. Good eye RD! Ok screw the dainichi, I will stick with my NLS -roll- Edit: and patrick!
  19. Don't live in Calgary anymore, but could it be the lighting? Maybe too much/too little fertilizer?? Just throwing out ideas. If you don't already you could try running a high quality carbon for impurities.
  20. 1st fry hatched today!!!! -ham- ooh and 2 more later in the day
