  1. Hi Milan, I am out on a jobsite again and will be likely until mid October. Old stems will rot off to make room for new. Just cut those old ones off. Should be no worry. Garhan
  2. To my understanding the K in both or all 3 chemicals will play a role in a 500 ml solution. Correct me if I am mistaken. KN03 K2S04 KH2PO4 The S04 doesnt play a significant role.
  3. No idea, do you have a picture or can you detail the critters better.
  4. I have always left mine attached. The exception is when I thin out the growth or wish to move plants to another area.
  5. Photo 1 and 3 are the same. It is Rotala indica at least that is what it was sold to me as and 2 is a fine leaved form of Water Sprite (Ceratopteris thalictroides). Does that help ? I have always been suspicious that the Rotala may very well be rotala rotundifolia but it is sold under both names.
  6. With this lighting system you have approx 1.43 watts/gallon. But as mentioned all your current plants are relatively low light plants. Or so that is they tolerate lower light levels and will grow likely slowly. Even what is considered a lowlight plant will grow faster at higher light levels. Addition of C02 and a good fertilizing program helps to promote and induce healthier growth.
  7. Exactly, this is a play tank. It often gets my poor plants, seedlings, pups etc...
  8. Try again, I'm still learning how to get this thing to work. Srry for inconvenience.
  9. Did you scrool down on the page? Works for me.
  10. Playing with pocketphoto program 50 gallon potted tank-growout tank http://photobucket.com/albums/b112/Garhan/...0Potted%20Tank/
  11. Milan, that tank is looking really good. I believe you also wanted some help ID'ing some of the plants in your tank. Also I use a Fertilizer Calculator by Chuk Gadd. I will post his website for you so that you can download his calculator. This is where I have been getting my volumes from for dosing and building my stock solutions. http://www.csd.net/~cgadd/aqua/art_plant_aquacalc.htm
  12. Dont forget the K value in the K2SO4. I assume you are talking about the Standard Stock Solution.
  13. Density is the key to the measurements. But powder and granual forms vary. We also want to use a common factor in the dosing. Thats where the 50/10 comes to play. 50 gallon tank 10 ml of ferts. It is easier to scale accordingly to the different tank sizes a person/s may run. Garhan
  14. Oh yeah and expect signs of results in about 2 to 3 weeks on the newer growth. But pay close attention to what will be then old growth on your plants.
  15. Not commercial it is a fellow that is completing his masters on aquatic macropyhtes. He makes to much sense to me at this time. But we will have to see how his thesis turns out.
  16. Milan, there is a newer ratio out for NPK and that is 7:1:10. Ther is more coming available next month when test results are available.
  17. I concer with Milans statements. Also let your system cure for an hour or two before hooking up to the tank. The other problem that you will encounter mechanically is syphoning back into your system if you use to warm a water.
  18. Milan, hello this is definitely a lack of K issue. Most of the readings I have come across show a variance in the K ratio of 3 to 4 times greater. K to my understanding cannot be over dosed as the plants will only use as much as they need to help them in there up take of N and P. There will be some new research matierial specifically out on K issue late next month. Currently there tests show the more K the better. As always if there is to much dosed of anything then the w/c is in order. Garhan
  19. You have Java Fern, Anubias, and Moneywort. Not sword plants and Banana plants. The first 2 do best attached to rock or wood. Dont sink there roots into a substrate. The other is Moneywort and it makes a good floating plant. I posted a response on the old site with regards to your water conditions. 60mg/l is about 5 degrees hardness and that is OK for growing plants. Your ph needs to be adjusted with C02 or vinegar to 6.7 or 6.8 to get maximum growth potiential out of your plants. Garhan
  20. Thaqnk you for the photo of your tank. Just out of curiosity are your plants anubias and Java fern in the front of your tank. The appear to be planted into the gravel in the front left side. Is this correct. Going by the photo they are not Sword Plants or Banana plants, as far as I can tell. Please advise... Garhan
  21. Hi Milan, Some three weeks have past since your last picture of your tank. I am curious to see what it looks like now. Could you please post another photo of your tank...I'm bored out on this job on the the night shift. Garhan Thanks in advance...
  22. PS I have had this happen to me also at PJ's, the ignoring me part, chatting with friends or other staff, talking on the phone. Ultimately it shows that the manager is weak and has no controll of his/her staff, let alone they have not trained there staff in the finer points of customer satisfaction. While staff were talking personal stuff on the phone and definitely not work related....I have a bad habit to only tolerate this for short moments...you should have seen the look on her face when I reached over and hung up the phone on her and requested that she should bring the manager out for me to discuss customer service with him and her...enough is enough... I wouldnt spend another dime there ever again, this happened in 2002. Garhan
  23. Val, go to Commercial Lighting on the southside off of 91 Street. Take in the product code number of the ballast and any other data you can find on the ballast that maybe helpful. They are a very helpful punch and Les the salesman is a saltwater nut. It is possible that you have a T10 balst and it may over drive your T8 Bulbs. Not a good thing. Then on the other hand they may not drive the T8's at all. Gather up as much info on your ballast as possible. I have been purchasing bulbs there for 4 years now. Currently I will be replacing all my lighting systems with either T5 systems or the U Tubes, but likely T5's. Garhan
  24. No problem at all. There are likely some variables that might be over looked between your setup and your brother in laws. Water, temperature, fish load etc.... plant volume....
