  3. he beautifull damn your lucky to have so much tank space. you must post more pics
  4. glad to see he is doing better. man that was wierd
  5. everyone always talks about how there isnt any stocking guideline for agressive-super agressive neotropical cichlids. well I think I have got one that is prety darn close. -1 inch fish for every 36 square inches of footprint. - take away 15-20 percent if you are over 50% of your total fish length is made up of very agressive to very agressive fish that are at least 1/6 the length of your tank. - no matter what you can never go 20% over the 1 inch fish for every 36 square inches rule. with these rules you do halfto use some discresion. the more large, agressive a fish is the less inches you can fit in your tank. I got some grid paper and started to draw out lots of tank footprints. taking what I think would be the max that could fit in that tank and then counting it out. I also did this with other tanks real people keep and their stocking list. in all the instances that didnt involve people being insainly cautious, male umbees or other giant killer fish they where withing 15% on either side of my initial rule
  6. hillo welcome I always wanted Prianha, dads scared of them though.
  7. wow the reseblence is amazing.... almost freaky! actually I think yours (by the pictures) looks even better than jumbo and, if you dont mind me being frank you picture isnt even as good but he still looks better.
  8. they are finnicky little buggers. some strains as val mentioned are just bad and really specific about water quality and/or die for no reason. they are like really expensive aquatic froggs
  9. a place to post new fish/deals and other stuff that people would like to see. just a whole section where people can post new arrivals/ interesting things see we already have posts about it. it would be nice to clump them all into a section. people could also post great bargain finder deals. 4 example this post or this
  10. :well: is what I described up there normal? 3 of them are really spangled but they all have a darker front of their dorsal fin. and that is how all of them where at the store. they cant ALL be females can they? is this just juvi coloring? il post some pics later
  11. so do tell us is it silly africans or real cichlids your into?
  12. yea tell me about it I was pretty sure of that one though. if it had any flowerhorn it would be a good 3 generations back. but it is extreamly hard to tell
  13. never mind. wayen said they sold the trimac yesterday. To bad, that was a really nice fish. well nice isnt really the word for it more like beautifull and nasty I really should have bought it, well thats what you get for procrastinating and not having enough tanks. I still could have kept it in a dived part though rats
  14. wow that jag is amazing!! if I didnt know better I might be tempted to say it is the prongy of Jumbo  man canucklehead is off the deep end, I think someone needs a splash in the face with some good ol' neotropical water. and then maybe a slap in the face with a Hap dont worry you will pull through soon, where all rooting for ya
  15. I forget it wasnt that much I dont think. try to pm that Aaron he works there.
  16. I was at riverfront yesterday and saw some pretty neat fish. first there is this trimac, he/she is so sweet but also an insaniac :boxed: put your finger or fist within an inch of the glass and it goes insane and its only like 6 inches, its also quite a looker too. if I had another tank I would buy it in a second. there was also this Jag, about 6 inches if Im not mistaken it was a Gold variety. but It looked amazing. now someone hasto let me know on this one, I am no expert by a very long stretch but I think they may have the true green terror. either that or the white saum which is at least rarer that the gold saum. they have white tails, maybe their just sick or stressed? And of course there are the wild caught festaes. The alpha female is something. damn hard to find any males though. anyway just thought I would share. someone should buy that trimac or jag though
  17. hmm interesting I have never posted what I have well here it goes: what I currently have, 1 midas 1 green terror 2 convicts 2 pink convicts 4 festaes 1 jack dempsey 1 salvini 1 jaguar what I have had, 1 firemouth 2 oscar 1 dovii (only like a week) what I would like to have tank space for, dovii black nasty freddy mota umbee jaguar
  18. yes please!!!! we need news. dont worry canucklehead it will be alright soon. but maybe you should see someone in the meantime
  19. ok I have 4 now and I am hopiing to get a fifth if golds does an order from jeff. the problem is I think they might all be females. the thing is they all have much more spanglaing on the body and tail than my known female but they so have a darker, not black from what I have seen but deffenently a darker blueish green. they also are not showing their barrs as much as my known female but she is the alpha so I kinda expect good colors. they are all about 3.25 inches
  20. o yes sorry I forgot to add that to the computer diagram. (i have a million others laying arround my house. I was going to put a L frame allong the top like this. Understand? And I was going to have 2 cross bars allong the top, each 2 feet from the end __ __ ll l -with this being the new L beam l l l l excuse the 2 extra l's they where the only way to get it perfecty alligned
  21. yea I know I have looked arround everyone and everything except smokey (not to say he is wrong, just safe) says that it would be safe and fine. actualy the tank itself will be 28 inches tall, but that includes the 3 inch metal bracer. There will only be 22" of glass actualy showing.
  22. ok garf says this would be fine for a glass tank WITHOUT a 3 inch metal frame so im pretty sure this will be alright. 7 feet long by 30" wide and 24" tall. I mean think about it. you use way thinner glass on a plywood tank and since there is 3 inchs of support on all sides that is pretty much like most plywood tanks. and garf said that that would be ok for an all glass tank. im gonna be reall carfull about choices of tank design. no tall, tippy, heavy rocks, lots of driftwood, fake plants and low lying caves and pots. filteration will be 2 or 1 aq500's and a wet/dry filter doing 1200 gph using a skimmerless overflow. heating will be a 100w visitherm and a 250w ebo. located in the sump occupants will be a festae pair, salvini, convict and some t-barbs. there will be 3 compartments in the 55 or 75 gallon sump. 1 for plants, 1 for a fry/quarunteen tank (with bypass tubes to be used if it is a Q tank) tank. and the last compartment for the return pump. I will be using an extra powerfull return pump so I can create an ugj system from the return. As for the tank itself the frame will be whater kind of meal I can get. it will have 1 iron cross beams for support on the bottom and 2 on the top. it will also have glass supports on the top too.
  23. keep in mind FishManTy that it will have a 3 inch metal frame all the way arround thanks for the advice
  24. Ok I thought about it. the thing is I am getting two, 3 foot by 8 foot pannals for free. they are 10 mill. what is the largest tank that I could make if I use a 3"metal frame all the way arround the tank and a plywood/3mm plexi bottom. if it is possible to get a tank longer than 6 feet I would be willing to buy 2 end panals.
