  1. I got a jag from riverfront. he was the biggest one by far and by his colors obvously ruled the tank. When he was in the pet store he was swimming and doing fine. when I got him home he hid in the plant and floated all funny. No big deal right? I mean he was the smallest fish in a strange new tank so obvously he was scared. Anyway now, 2 months later he still float kinda funny. He doesnt move when he doesnt halfto. most of the time he just floats with his nose up or down. he can swim normaly but usualy when somefish is on a collision course with him he just turns on the side and make an arch that they slip under. He has no physical signs other than the floating of any problem. he fights eats and looks like any jag of his age. The strangest thing is, he never gets beat. other that the occasional nip taken at him for not moving he never gets beaten up. He is growing very fast and is now the fourth biggest in the tank out of 10 fish. When he gets into a fight he flares his gills and all of the sudden swims normal but when he wins or the other fish leavs he just goes back to floating. My Mom preposed that maybe he is mental retarded. could this be? Are jags just like this? water perams are great and the have been since we got him. That is actualy why we went to riverfront in the first place, to get the water tested and it was better than fine.
  2. Albert dont forget about those panama umbees. and if this goes through I dont care what the :cuss: anyone says, albert IS getting the motm. Or else :guns: Someone get a bowl to collect rudy's drool I think freddys might go, if you only get a few. Just cause they are pretty and dont get to big (in terms of guapotes). If I get to keep my 180 (that is if I get a job) I will deffinently be looking for one. Maybe a male and female Red-head barred midas and hope for the best. You could also look for some of the smaller Aequidens.
  3. augg that is for full growns. does anyone have a breeding tank I could borrow/rent?
  4. ok I am fed up with my jewels. A few of you know the jewels I took home from the last auction. the male is 3"ish and the female is 2"ish. Do you think I could breed them in a 10 gallon tank? They get allong great so im not to worried about aggression. what is their favorite parameters and substrate? How should the tank be set up? or maybe if the 10 gallon wouldnt work out I could get someone to lend me a 20 or so gallon tank.
  5. lol I did that once :boom: and I will never do it again :boxed:
  6. Peterborough, I usedto live in london. Got famly in Peterborough though.
  7. chums that is a nice devil pair you have. yea cichlids have teeth. convicts do to and so do salvini's you should see th teeth on an adult salvini. at 3 inches mine's teeth are already visable
  8. hey shawn. thanx for the help on cichlid forum (180 gallon stocking) glad to see you on a forum wthout all those yankees
  9. uhg isnt there any pump that will do at least 110 that will only pump 4 feet up and is less than 90 watts ?¿?¿?¿?¿
  10. look at this dolphin pump im a bit confused it says in draws only 25 watts and then says it is one hundred-some watts. Also I checked and the mag drive 12 is 110 watts. and I thought 90 was a bit excessive. Sorry but that is out of the question.
  11. but wattage is a really big issue. Heat and cost are next and noize is in last. but I dont want it to be THAT noisy, about the same as 2 eliet 802 air pumps
  12. first of all is it a regular 20 or a 20 long? becuae there is a big difference in stocking options. Imo a female salvini could go just fine in a 20 long. not sure about a normal 20g though. firemouths can be really prety and so can rainbow cichlids. Some of the smaller aquadiens (sp?) look really good to. A female convict would be a nice choice to. I am currently line breeding them now for stunning color in the fins and belly as for the smaller dwarfs 1 would look verry small in a 20 gallon imo, better off to go with a pair. So..... a pair of sunset apisto would look nice (somewhat costly though_ also any cockatoo cichilds (dwarfs) are nice in pairs (but again fairly costly) or a pair of blue or gold rams yea they all look and act the same and there arent any big tough ones the dovii or umbee, now those are some REAL cichlids
  13. its a GEN-X/MAK-4 Water Pump does any 1 know if it is any good? it sounds like excactly the thing I would need because it is low wattage and pumps 1100 gph at 4 virtical feet. I would use this for a sump return and then a home made internal pipe filter for polishing and then an aqua clear 500 for heating I will use a 250 watt ebo in the sump. That is what the cichlid scene uses on thier 300 gallon so it should be good enough right? please help I really need ideas.
  14. i hit the town and go to petsmart ten petcetera then skiceller then petsmart. its sorta a loop and I get free water tests from each 'cept ski celler I do that once a week.
  15. a ram9s0 and swordtails those should be your fillers that would be nice
  16. but I cant do that I would trust me im throwing away 1000 bucks to go help little kids in costa rica and mexico but becuae of my lack of stuff and money that would be hard. and also to the breeding. some of us dont have enough tank space or permission to get enough tank space for a good breeding setup im so desperate I am trying to breed my jewels in a divided part of my neotropical tank and it isnt going so good I like the idea of writing articles but the reward system would be good for those members who are eliable for more than 1 on those topics
  17. umbee yes, joking others no well at least not all in the same one. I micht pu he festivum with the rams but that is it for the festiv as for others sorry I was unclear these are my favorite fish that could go in the tank not to put all these fish in one tank. for onething the festivum would get ripped up and there goes a waste of 10 bucks certainly sorry for the misunderstanding I will e more clear in the future but in a 90 gallon except the for the umbee and festivum yea I would put them all in the same tank? is there a problem wih that that I dont know of. please inform me cause my big tank is just as diverse as that and no problms yet but I would like to know for the future  o yea and I am serious not sarcacstic johnsmith: what are your favorites out of these fish. post it (ranking best to worst please) and I will try to whip up a tank stocking list that I think you may like and that I think would work. but note that I couldnt really put say a salvini with a festive cichlid. Aequidens metae port acara salvini (female) firemouth keyhole festivum rams rainbow cichlid blue acara (female)
  18. wow hey fishman do you have any 180 gallons to sell? yea I like albert's idea I can do that :baby: and extra points if you include pics. only one thing though..... albert cant do golds chums cant do chums and well yea you cand do your own store
  19. ok I may have a chance to build a 180 gallon tank. the problem is I have no bottom. do you think I could use a piece of plywood for the bottom and cilicone put a layer of 3 mm glass to it? would that work? another thing. ifI built a 180 gallon, standard size would anyone be interested in it if it turned out really nice? in would have 1.75 inch braces allong all verticies. the only problem is it would only be made out of 10 mm glass. that is only 1 mm above the recomended minimum BUT I would have the extra bracers. just wanting to know if anyone would even look at it to buy it you dont halfto marry it or anything. questions what would you look at more ? tank. 120 dlrs tank and oak stank w/ solid oak doors 250 drls tank and stand and sump who knows those are the prices I would be looking to sell at if I sold they are prettyreasonable. I put crown molding on all my stands and they end up looking better than almosy anything you can buy at big al's
  20. a 10 inch sal??? really wow but yea males will get 8 and females 6.5 though I have sen them a bit past 7. and it really depends on the dimesions if the 30 gall ok maybe not im forgetting what my sal did to my convict we call him "patch-eye" now :boxed: well hmm 30 never had one of those. depending on size maybe 2 firemouths and a rainbow cichlid? all females though. what about a festivum? you could have that and a keyhole and a german ram or two. here are a bunch that could go in there -the salvini just for rudy firemouth- kinda agressive at times keyhole-pretty darn peacfull festivum- woudnt hurt a fly rams-somewhat nipy but fine in a semi peacfull tank rainbow cichlid- not sure never had one umbee- evil and huge I would put all these guys together except the festivum they need really good water and are choosy about their tank mates keyhole firemouth rainbow 2 rams that would be fully stocked and the colors in there would be astounding. yo would need a cave for the firmouth to take ownership and so it would give him a smaller territory, at least that is what I have found with my midas. controled half the tank gave her a pot and now she owns l cube foot
  21. lol not nessicarily. i have hmm lets see 320 21 ha beat that and you halfto minust the tanks that are breeders/stockforsale ok I get 20 points
  22. firemouths salvinis convicts blue acara? rainbow cichlid. this is my speciality - by this i mean it is bacicaly the only thing I am half good at
