  1. Howdy, Here is a link to another post with pics of those "pheno's" i got from the auction. http://albertaaquatica.com/index.php?showtopic=4585 And here is a picture from last night of my Male. The ones from the auction have been taken to a lfs were they orignally came from before auction. Sammy
  2. Good evening, Just finished up with some new pictures and thought I would share. I know we like looking at others fish pictures, hope you do too. Mysterious Firefin Continued...
  3. Good evening, I was given these at the auction and they were listed as female Placidochromis Phenochilus. I cant find any pictures of phenochilus that look like these. They were from Big al's originally rumored to be from owef. I know there are a few variants of this species like Tanzania, mdoka, and another I dont recall the name but none of them look like these supposed females. Does anyone have any ideas about the fish in these pictures? Could they be Placidochromis Phenochilus "Mdoka"? I kinda think they look abit like electra's with something else. Notice that clutch of eggs? Those are from my breeding bristlenose. I just put some more caves in last weekend and already finding eggs in them. Thanks in advance, Sammy
  4. Howdy, I did grab a couple of those firefins almost ayear ago from a guy named Marlon here in edmonton. He stated that some dude in Calgary got these in from another dude in germany which was breeding them from a eureka x otterpoint of somesort. Anyways I was asking about them on another forum back then because I suspected that marlon was full of ****. Turns out he is full up to his eyeballs, I have yet to find another person in edmonton or Calgary who has ever heard of marlons secret fish other then the few people that got them from him. I would have to say they are most likey a little soupy, Nice looking fish but still soupy to me. I am growing out a few of them right now to put one in the show tank. I have nothing against the selective bred ie... Ruby's, Super Red Emps, eureka's, I have kept them all for show tanks not to breed. If you bred a Aulonocara jacobfreibergi (Undu Reef) and Aulonocara jacobfreibergi (Hongi Is.) is that not considerd Hybrid? or selective bred? I would think it is hybrid. Just because they are in the same family group (Aulonocara) doesnt make it selective does it? I thought selective is like picking the best looking strongest male of the species and hooking him up with the best looking female you could find ie... some females may have slight hues of color to them and some females also may have nicer finnage patterns/colors in them. I have alittle saying that i try to follow (Believe NONE of what you hear and only HALF of what you see) anything is possible. Ciao for now, Sammy
  5. I have about 4-5 small breeding groups here now and would be willing to part with a group or 2. proven breeders. lemme know. Sammy
  6. Howdy, I got another name now being used for this cat I have. Synodontis longirostris, and after looking on the net for this fish it does not look like that either, The tail and finage dont have the same patterns. What do you think? Sammy
  7. Yup, I spent some time on planetcatfish earlier and agree that it looks alot like the eupterus mixed with possible decorus or something. Thanks again. Mike
  8. Good evening, I thought it may have been a cross, toomany pokadots and too dark. The store was Big Al's and they have more hybrids in right now labled Decorus. Thank you for the quick reply. I wonder If I told them that I believe its a hybrid and wanted my money back? Its been a year. Is it too late for that you think? Mike
  9. Good morning, I have had this cat for about 1year and I bought it thinking it was a decorus however he/she does not look like the Decorus ive seen on the net or from my books. Can anyone here add some light to this? Here is a few pictures of him/her. He has tripled in size since I purchased him but his color and markings havent changed much, well his color has enhanced some since the NLS . Thanks in advance, Mike
  10. Howdy, The pheno's are gentle giants, I too have had them mixed with Acei and Labs with no problems at all. They always seem to stick together and do their own thing. The only problem you'll have with them Pheno's is tank size . 6' tank needed for a small group of adults. Good luck, Sammy
  11. Nice setup RD, going to be a nice looking combo of fish once all together. I think leaving the back of the tank completely open is the way to go. I use to build the rock from the back to the front, sorta pushing the fish towards the front of the tank. Now all my tanks have a path all the way through the backs of them, it opens up so much more real estate for them to explore and take shelter. Sammy
  12. Nice hybrid fish, only way to get red like that from an african i quess. Sammy.
  13. RD, Thanks a bunch for the links, thats enough confirmation for me. I had read the MM's profile but not the CF link. I have recently bred this fish and again was looking to set my mind at ease before doing anything with the fry. Those pics from MM look identical to my Male and females. I guess I missed the info posted in the MM profile of the fish under "Diet in WILD consist of" heh, because one of my original concerns was that the fish was man made like the eureka's do to the very slim documentation on this fish. Anyways thanks again RD your help is greatly appreciated. Mike
  14. Good day, I have been keeping a small group of what I believe to be the Aulonocara Reginae/Caroli (Swallowtail). Now from what I understand the name swallowtail has been used when discribing other Jacobfriebergi. I have also read somewhere that the name swallowtail was originally giving to the Aul. Caroli/Reginae because of the brighter tails/fins they have. Does anyone have any futher info on this fish that may help out? That would be greatly appreciated. The little info I was able to find on them was very slim and I am not even fully sure this fish is found in the lake and not a man made species like the eureka. I have tried calling Oldworld exotic cichlids with no luck. I only have the one contact number which is a recording. The group came from OWC and they were listed as Aul. Swallowtail. Here is a little video clip of my swallowtail. Swallowtail Windows Media plater needed. Thank you in advance, Mike
  15. Howdy, I would have to agree with RD, when I moved last year I simple did a good water change the night before moving and didnt feed them the day of the move either (Less waste). Then once we arrived the fish and all the water from the bags were put into a 40gal rubbermaid and then topped off with more clean water. I would not worry too much about the short drive, fish will last a good 20hours without much stress at all (As long as you do a good water change the night before) Hope that helps. Sammy
  16. Howdy, LoL, I found out why my PU blocker was going off on the new site. I have a habit of using my forward/back buttons to navigate in IE, and over the past couple days Ive been checking out the "My Assistant" which my PU blocker considers a PU, so after I have used it I would start using the forward/back button and it was triggering the "My assistant" pop-up haha. I gotta lay off the party favor's Problem is now solved and the site has been added to the safe list. Thanks for the quick reply. Sammy
  17. Loking good Gina, Is that the quartz in picture 3 of the first post? if so, how is it working out for you? Sammy
  18. Howdy all, I was wondering if any other members have been getting web pop-ups from this new forum? I have never seen any pop-up (advertisments) before on the old free host. Its been almost a year since I reloaded my system and have notice pops almost everytime I start searching through the forum, and only on this forum. Is it maybe something internal? Like maybe a glitch in the "My Assistant" applet? Just an observation, hopefully its not Ad's and something else. Sammy
  19. Howdy, I Was playing with the macro settings on the camera and a very co-operative Juvie Lithobate was kind enough to pose for me. Hope you like. More to come. Sammy
  20. Popeye, Thats a sweet looking planted tank you have there, Ive been thinking about doing 1 small planted tank. when I do I will give you a call. Sammy
  21. Nice fish and pics tc51. Is that a calvus I see in the background of img_1000? If so have you had any problems with him and your haps? Ive been wanted to add one to my show tank for awhile now but thought he might be alittle too gentle for the rest. I have many other tangs in the show tank with no problems whatsoever. Thanks Sammy
