  1. I have to agree with Goldfish Girl. While it may be a little more pricey than sandblasting sand, your plants will thank you for it.
  2. Here is a pic that I thought quite neat. Seldom (at least in my tank) do you get Siamese Algae Eaters laying side by side on the bottom.
  3. I have (5) Bosemani, (3) Turquoise and (4) Parkinsoni in my 110 gallon tank. I really like the Parkinsoni the best. Their colour is really striking and behaviour wise they get along really good, as do the Turquoise. In my experience the Bosmani should be kept as 2 females to every 3 males otherwise they will pester the female to death. In a planted tank the rainbows add a whole new dimension of colour. This may not look like it in the LFS as most don't display their colours that well until they are at your home. Even then, juveniles take a while to colour up. Big Al's has some great Rainbows in their big planted show tank in Edmonton if you get a chance to see it. Here is pretty decent link you can check out. Rainbows
  4. Stopped in at Nature's Corner today and met Henry (we figure we must have met before as we used to hang in the same end of town back in the day when Double G Aquarium was still around. Know some of the same people even). Great guy! Didn't have much in the way of plants at the moment but I did manage to pick up a new CO2 regulator (tired of mixing yeast so I took the plunge today and picked up a cylinder from Praxair as well) some plant tabs and a few Otto's. I'll definitley be stopping in again. Thanks everybody.
  5. Well I've managed to capture four of the little beggars so far. Can't see anymore at the moment but I'm sure my battle is far from over. Wouldn't want to wake up with a bunch of hickies LOL
  6. Hey Toirtis, Pest-type in what manner? Thanks in advance, Rob
  7. Thanks Sam, After doing a little Googling that appears to be exactly what it is. Rob
  8. Can anybody tell me what kind of snail this is? Must have got a few on the last plants I bought and they are starting to appear and growing quite large. Not up on my snails... Rob
  9. Thanks everybody, I'll most certainly have to visit Nature's Corner. I'm looking for Echinodorus Barthii most specifically. I need a centerpiece for my 110 gallon and I think it would fit in perfectly. I can order it through Aquarium Plants but I'm worried about the plant surviving our weather during transport... Rob
  10. I've purchased some plants through Big Al's before but for the most part their selection appears to be very limited, however far better than Aquagiant. Not sure I would purchase a plant from aquagiant or not, last time I was there they (the plants) looked pretty forlorn. I've never set foot before in Nature's Corner, is it worth the trip as far as plants are concerned?
  11. What would everyone's opinion be on the best place to buy plants in Edmonton? Doesn't seem to be a good selection from what I can find.
  12. I recently ordered some Marsilea quadrifolia and expect it in a few days. I love the look of it as a ground cover plant and it should look good once it takes hold. My question is: How do you plant it? I've searched and can't seem to find the answer. Should it be broken down into smaller groupings and then planted? Or should it be planted in a large bunch? Thanks for any advice you can offer.
  13. I'm not an ACE member and to be honest, I'm not sure what ACE is. Can you fill me in with some more info? Thanks, Rob
  14. Hey all, I'm looking for Hernianthus Callitrichoides and a Echinodorus Barthii. Does anybody know where I might be able to find these in Edmonton? I can get them through Aquariumplants.com (although they are currently out of HC) but have to wait until later in January before they ship. Thought I might be able to save on shipping costs. Thanks, Rob
