  1. Very Nice Jardini - so it has taken 2 years to get from 8cm - 35cm? What size tank is he in? What foods does he eat? I am considering one in the near future and I would like to know how long it would be before I needed a monster tank for him. How does he get along with his tank mates??

    Thanks a bunch

    Cory

  2. Have you tried a razorblade? I had the same problem in my 90 gallon - just on the back wall. Scraped it off with a razorblade every 5 days or so, decreased the time between water changes, and changed the position of the light over the tank - it's helped thus far....

    *keeping fingers crossed*

  3. I've been changing 1/3 of the water every 4 hours (including all night... thank heavens for alarm clocks) and maintaining a malachite greeen / formalin treatment to protect against fungus.

You are a much better poppa than I would ever be!!! - Nice fish, can't wait to see how the offspring turn out.....

  4. I noticed a huge reduction in the 'large particle' matter in the filters

I definately noticed the same thing - this is why I had hoped to keep them in there. It is nice to hear that someone else has had luck doing the same. I did not intend for this to happen by any means. I'm sure that a few sprigs got sucked up into the cannister when I had plants in the tank a while back - the snails were just passengers.

    :D Thanx

  5. I put a few into the tank and the oscar ate em up - he absolutely loves em (sounds cool when he crunches them up). Maybe I'll keep a few in the filter as a food source and feed the rest to the O. Thanks for the help, I just wanted to make sure they wouldn't affect the bio filtration

  6. Cleaned out my Fluval 403 and opened it up to quite a surprise - hundreds of tiny snails living in and on my filter media. They obviously came into my tank as hitchhikers from a few plants that I had in the tank a month or so ago. They seem to be proliferating quite happily in the dank darkness of the cannister filter. I have to mention that although I let the filter go longer than I usually do between changes, it seemed to be much cleaner than usual as well. So my question is whether or not to leave the little guys in there or do I need to get rid of 'em?

  7. Thanx - I've gotten that response a few times now. I think what sets it apart from most Oscars you see is that it appears to have the Veil Tail characteristic as the fins are overgrown slightly and the tail is not rounded like the average O. However, the gene does not seem to be dominant as the fins/tail are not overly massive like some of the pix I've seen on the net. My Little Pony comes to mind...
