  1. Great looking O you got there Murray - How long have you had the GT - does he get along with the Oscar OK?
  2. Get some video next time and you might have a FOX special in the making...
  3. Are there any species that are close in look and characteristics to the yellow perch that we have in Alberta?
  4. I keep my tanks pretty topped up, but I do like about 1-2" of space for the water to fall. Basically I like to be able to hear the water if I'm listening for it, but I don't like it when the sound of the "waterfall" overpowers everything else in the room - make sense??
  5. Thanks for the heads up...
  6. http://www.amonline.net.au/fishes/fishfact...h/lcalcarif.htm wow....
  7. Big difference hey? - And cheap too...
  8. That's awesome - thanks for the report....
  9. Very Nice Jardini - so it has taken 2 years to get from 8cm - 35cm? What size tank is he in? What foods does he eat? I am considering one in the near future and I would like to know how long it would be before I needed a monster tank for him. How does he get along with his tank mates?? Thanks a bunch Cory
  10. Harpoon gun would be my guess...
  11. Seems every time you set up a new tank there is a diatom outbreak - Lasts a few weeks to a few months and then goes away.... IME
  12. Your water changes seem good... One thing I did forget to mention, as Dave reminded me - I decreased the daily light in the tank by 2 hours. Not sure if one thing solved the problem or a combination of all of them
  13. SERENITY NOW - SERENITY NOW... There are only two things - OK maybe three things that give me serenity - fishkeeping is one of them...
  14. Have you tried a razorblade? I had the same problem in my 90 gallon - just on the back wall. Scraped it off with a razorblade every 5 days or so, decreased the time between water changes, and changed the position of the light over the tank - it's helped thus far.... *keeping fingers crossed*
  15. You are a much better poppa than I would ever be!!! - Nice fish, can't wait to see how the offspring turn out.....
  16. Really nice Aaron... Still hoping to get a small system such as yours up and running but spare time is dictating otherwise right now. What kind of skimmer did you use in your sump?
  17. Very good - thanx Any suggestions on where to get a PC fan? - preferences?
  18. Also curious about this subject.... What kind of fan did you use? How did you mount it? What kind of power supply? thanx - Cory
  19. getting into the black market organ trade?? - I'm gonna need some lungs here in the next few years - how much?
  20. Love the clean lines - great video....
  21. I definately noticed the same thing - this is why I had hoped to keep them in there. It is nice to hear that someone else has had luck doing the same. I did not intend for this to happen by any means. I'm sure that a few sprigs got sucked up into the cannister when I had plants in the tank a while back - the snails were just passengers. Thanx
  22. I put a few into the tank and the oscar ate em up - he absolutely loves em (sounds cool when he crunches them up). Maybe I'll keep a few in the filter as a food source and feed the rest to the O. Thanks for the help, I just wanted to make sure they wouldn't affect the bio filtration
  23. Cleaned out my Fluval 403 and opened it up to quite a surprise - hundreds of tiny snails living in and on my filter media. They obviously came into my tank as hitchhikers from a few plants that I had in the tank a month or so ago. They seem to be proliferating quite happily in the dank darkness of the cannister filter. I have to mention that although I let the filter go longer than I usually do between changes, it seemed to be much cleaner than usual as well. So my question is whether or not to leave the little guys in there or do I need to get rid of 'em?
  24. Thanx - I've gotten that response a few times now. I think what sets it apart from most Oscars you see is that it appears to have the Veil Tail characteristic as the fins are overgrown slightly and the tail is not rounded like the average O. However, the gene does not seem to be dominant as the fins/tail are not overly massive like some of the pix I've seen on the net. My Little Pony comes to mind... Example: HERE
